SEMI-THERM XIX Call For Papers

Nineteenth Annual IEEE
Semiconductor Thermal Measurement
and Management Symposium

March 11 - 13, 2003, Fairmont Hotel, San Jose, CA, USA

SEMI-THERM is an international forum dedicated to new developments in the thermal characterization of
electronic components and systems. The symposium is designed to foster the exchange of information
from both the academic and industrial communities on advances in the thermal management of
electronic systems.

In 2003, SEMI-THERM is expanding to include: Topic Sessions with Invited Speakers and an increased
number of optional short courses. The technical workshops, tutorials and vendor exhibits, for which
SEMI-THERM is well known, will continue to enhance the program sessions. Student papers are being
solicited this year. For details, contact the Program Chair. The Program Committee is soliciting technical
papers on current thermal management, modeling and measurement work on electronic components and
systems in the following areas:

Topic Sessions:

Temperature Effects on Performance and Reliability
Cooling of Microelectronics in Challenging Environments
Thermal Issues in Optoelectronics
CFD Modeling of Complex Geometrics
Thermal Interface Materials - Measurement Techniques and Standards
Advances in Liquid Cooling
Compact Modeling Techniques

Other Areas of Interest:

Characterizations and Modeling of Thermo-mechanical Stress
Advances in Semiconductor Temperature Measurement Techniques
Thermal Integration in the Product Design Process
Advances in Materials and Applications with New Materials
Thermal Characterization of Components, PCB's and Systems
Analytical and Numerical Simulations
Experimental Methods and Applications
Thermal Control and Management Using Phase Changed Materials
Electro-Thermal Simulation of Devices
Thermal Management of High Power Electronics
Heat-sink Modeling and Characterization
Sub-Ambient Cooling Applications and Methods
Thermal Model Validation Techniques
Cooling Techniques for Portable Equipment
Low Cost Cooling Methods
New Approaches in Heat Transfer Education
Thermal Property Measurement Techniques

Selection of papers for presentation is solely based on the extended abstract. Authors should submit a
complete summary of the proposed paper that consists of work or results not previously presented or
published. The abstract should contain key results supporting the conclusions and findings in at least
two pages of single-spaced text with additional pages of figures, tables and references as appropriate.
The purpose of the extended abstract is to demonstrate that the proposed paper is appropriate for
SEMI-THERM and is of high technical quality. Electronic submission is the only accepted submission
mode. Please email your extended abstract to the program chair in MS Word or PDF format. Note that the
number of accepted papers will be higher than historical levels with parallel sessions and the
continuation of separate afternoon poster sessions. There is a special interest in student papers; for
further details and terms refer to 'Students Call for Papers' or contact the Program Chair.

Dates for submissions and notification to authors are:

Abstract Deadline
September 16, 2002
Notification of Abstract Acceptance
October 28, 2002
Photo-Ready Full Manuscript Due
January 10, 2003

Submission of an abstract represents a commitment to submit a cleared manuscript for publication in the
Symposium Proceedings and to attend and present the paper at SEMI-THERM in March of 2003.
Manuscripts are expected to be approximately eight pages including figures. The language of the
Symposium is English. IEEE membership is not required to present a paper.

Send one copy of the extended abstract to the Program Chair via email:
