Where Are The Future Packaging Technologists?

Many of our industry's future packaging technologists, and future IEEE CPMT Society members, are still elementary and secondary students. Who and what will influence these students to become future engineers and packaging technologists? Parents, teachers and active technologists can be influencers and coaches to these global pre-college boys and girls.

The IEEE has developed several pre-college technology education programs that can be used in local communities. One of these programs is the IEEE emeritbadges.org Project at www.emeritbadges.org. The program is working with the Global Scouting Movement, boys and girls, to attract them to engineering. The program is primarily working with the Boy Scouts Electricity, Electronics and Computer Merit Badges, www.scouting.org , and the Girl Scouts "Girls Go Tech" program at www.girlsgotech.org.

IEEE CPMT members are encouraged to check out these pre-college technology education programs for boys and girls to use them in their local communities. CPMT members that have questions concerning these programs should contact CPMT Society Strategic Director for Membership, Ralph W. Russell, II, at emeritbadges@ieee.org.
