Report from the Chairman: 1998 ActivitiesWe had the successful 1998 year for our IEEE CPMT/MTT/ED/AP Saratov-Penza Chapter activity. In that year we had two big International Conferences in Saratov City each with the number of participants more then 100. These Conferences were named as INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ACTUAL PROBLEMS OF ELECTRON DEVICES ENGINEERING (APEDE'98), September 7-9, 1998, at Saratov State Technical University (SSTU), and the 5th INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL on CHAOTIC OSCILLATIONS and PATTERN FORMATION (CHAOS98), October 6-10, 1998, at Saratov State University (SSU).We held also our Third Chapter Workshop "CAD and numerical methods in applied electrodynamics and electronics" which was carried out on September 9, 1998 in conjunction with APEDE'98. The Scientific Programs of our conferences included the main topics: APEDE'98:
These conferences were very successful and useful for scientific exchange and cooperation.
Activities for 1999:The 1999 year in Saratov have been started by commemorating of 90 years jubilee of Saratov State University (SSU) - the tenth university in Russia at the begining of the 20th century. The celebration of this anniversary began in February with the weekly circle of lectures in which the historical and scientific aspects of SSU action in this century have been pointed. Each lecture has been dedicated to one of the famous rectors or professors in physics: P.V. Golubkov, V.N. Shevchik, V.I. Kalinin, G.M. Gerstein, V.S. Stalmakhov. The role of SSU in the development of electronics and radiophysics in Russia have been explored and underlined in these lectures in connection with the biographies and scientific activities its founders and professors. The next circle of lectures will be continued during the 1999.On March 2-6, 1999 the XI traditional Saratov Winter School "XI-th International Winter School-Conference on Microwave Electonics and Radiophysics" (MER'99) was held in the Saratov suburb sanatorium "Salute". The first such conference was held near Saratov in 1970. The MER'99 was organized by SSU, State Educational and Scientific Center "College" of SSU, Saratov Branch of the Radio Engineering and Electronics Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences, IEEE CPMT/MTT/ED/AP Saratov-Penza Chapter, Ministry for Young People Affairs, Sport and Tourism of Saratov Region, and sponsored by the Ministry for General and Professional Education of Russia, Russian Foundation for Basic Research, and the IEEE Electron Devices Society. The MER'99 Chairman is the Rector of SSU Prof. D.I. Trubetskov. The main information about MER'99 has been available on the Web. MER'99 was very successful: the 74 lectures and reports from Moscow, St.-Petersburg, Nizhni Novgorod, Rostov, Samara, Penza, Saratov (Russia), and Kharkov (Ukraine) were presented there. The MER'99 was a low-cost event so the scientists from former SU could take a part. We also have planned to hold on September 20-21, 1999 the Fourth Chapter Workshop "CAD and numerical methods in applied electrodynamics and electronics". We are looking forward to increasing our chapter cooperation and collaboration with IEEE, other sections and chapters. PAST MEETINGS:More Information
