The column Student's Corner column is written by your student representative and included in each issue of the EMB Magazine. The column contains updates about student activies and conferences and profiles of student clubs and chapters. Please send information about your student event for publication by filling out the IEEE-EMBS Event Template Form. Pictures are always welcome!
The IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering is one of the leading research journals in the field of biomedical engineering and is widely disseminated throughout the world. Original research papers covering the broad spectrum of theoretical and applied biophysics are published following the successful completion of a comprehensive peer review process. This journal was one of the first devoted to engineering in medicine and biology and has published over forty annual volumes. It is published monthly with more than 1,200 editorial pages per year.
Manuscripts range in content from practical/clinical applications through experimental science and technological development to formalized mathematical theory. All the medical areas are concerned as well as molecular electronics, dentistry and aerospace applications. Typical topics include, but certainly are not limited, to the following :
- Physiological modeling, non-linear dynamics, bioelectricity, biomagnetism
- Signal processing, pattern recognition, monitoring and control
- Instrumentation, real-time systems, sensors, actuators, microtechniques, minimally invasive interventions
- Medical imaging, reconstruction, analysis, visualization, virtual reality, computer-assisted interventions
- Medical informatics, decisions and knowledge based systems, neural networks, man-machine communication
- Laser and opto-electronics applications
- Electromagnetic fields in biology and medicine
IEEE Reviews in Biomedical Engineering (R-BME) provides comprehensive reviews of engineering methodologies being developed at the frontiers of biomedical engineering. Sections include:
- Methodological Reviews: critical reviews of current methods important in biomedical engineering, understood in their most general sense
- Clinical Application Reviews: critical reviews of methods applied to a current clinical problems, where biomedical technology is playing a crucial role
- In the Spotlight: a special column that will survey the most important advances in the EMBS areas within the last year. The column will highlight new directions, goals achieved, unexpected difficulties, competing techniques, translations to successful products, new clinical applications, and similar key advances that are important to our readership
In the context of IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, "medical imaging" means imaging of body organs, usually in situ, rather than microscopic biological entities. The journal publishes original contributions on medical imaging achieved by various modalities, such as ultrasound, X-rays (including CT), nuclear magnetic resonance, radionuclides, microwaves, etc. as well as medical image data acquisition and retrieval, processing and analysis, and pattern recognition and components of systems pertinent for the above purpose. The journal focusses on a unified common ground where instrumentation, systems, components, computing hardware and software, mathematics and physics contribute to the studies.
The IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine (TITB) is positioned to publish high quality 'application'
papers that reflect global information technology advances in medicine and biology and will further address the implementation
and management of the broad spectrum of health care innovations arising from these developments world-wide. The goal of TITB is to report on the latest developments of how information technology is utilized to harness medical, biological, and health care programs.
Top-rated by the annual Journal Citation Report, the number one journal in rehabilitation focuses on the rehabilitative and neural aspects of biomedical engineering including functional electrical stimulation, acoustic dynamics, human performance measurement and analysis, nerve stimulation, electromyography, motor control and stimulation, and hardware and software applications for rehabilitation engineering and assistive devices.
Explore original, innovative and interdisciplinary work on all aspects of molecular systems, cellular systems and tissues in Transactions on NanoBioscience. Bringing you the latest and most advanced research from the worlds of engineering, physics, chemistry, computer science, biology and medicine, TNB covers it all — from practical, clinical and environmental applications to formalized mathematical theory.
This quarterly publishes archival research related to the logarithmic, mathematical, statistical and computational methods that are central to bioinformatics and computational biology, the development and testing of effective computer programs, the development and optimization of biological databases, and important biological results that are obtained from the applications of these methods.
Recent developments in science and biotechnology have prompted engineers, scientists and medical researchers to review their current programs in order to better prepare students for the future. However, these emerging technologies have not been adequately presented to medical engineers and researchers. Most of the published texts in these areas are either outdated or are on abstract levels. Therefore, they do not satisfy the current demands for teaching and research in biomedical engineering and science. For this reason, there is an increasing demand for well written and prepared biomedical engineering and science textbooks in the current and emerging technologies. The focus of our series is to introduce these current and emerging technologies to biomedical engineering and science students and medical researchers; the content will encompass theory to practical implementation of these methods.
Proceedings from EMBS annual meetings are published for each meeting. For more information about books and conference proceedings, visit the IEEE Online Cataloge and Store and search on "biomedical."
