The IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility Society is the world's largest organization dedicated
to the development and distribution of information, tools and techniques for reducing
electromagnetic interference. The society's field of interest includes standards, measurement
techniques and test procedures, instrumentation, equipment and systems characteristics, interference
control techniques and components, education, computational analysis, and spectrum management, along
with scientific, technical, industrial, professional or other activities that contribute to this field.
Candidate nominations are now being accepted for the 2012 IEEE Annual Elections ballot for Director-at-Large positions on the IEEE EMC Society Board of Directors (BoD) for a three year term, beginning January 1, 2013.
The IEEE EMC Society is pleased to announce the 2012 Student EMC Hardware Design Competition, administered by its Educational and Student Activities Committee (ESAC). The objective of the competition is to provide students interested in the field of EMC a hands-on opportunity to apply their knowledge. Contestant teams will construct a specified digital circuit containing six integrated circuits using their choice of layout and power supply-filtering techniques. Each completed design will be tested for RF radiated emissions, and design with the lowest overall emissions will be declared the winner. The winning entry will be awarded $900 in cash, and one team member will receive an expense-paid trip to attend the 2012 IEEE International Symposium on EMC held in Pittsburgh, PA, August 5-10.
The first GOLD EMC event was kicked off the first time at the 2011 IEEE EMC Symposium Long Beach with an Ice Cream Social on Tuesday night Aug 14th at the wonderful Long Beach Aquarium. Then a technical session followed up on Wednesday featuring outstanding speakers such as Bruce Archambeault and Todd Hubing.
EMC Aviators Club
To be part of the Club one should be involved in EMC, have a pilot's license (power or gliding) and a wish to share your adventures and pictures with others. Information at: http://orlandi.ing.univaq.it/EMCfly/index.htm.
Amateur Radio in EMC
A number of EMC Society members also hold Amateur Radio licenses. Here is a list of Amateurs in EMC.
IEEE Members now have access via Xplore to books published by the IEEE Press. Some examples include:
Electromagnetic Fields, J. Bladel,
Electromagnetic Fields in Cavities: Deterministic and Statistical Theories, D. Hill
Electromagnetic Shielding, S. Celozzi, R. Araneo, G. Lovat
Electromagnetics: History, Theory, and Applications, R. Elliot
Engineering Electromagnetic Compatibility : Principles, Measurements, Technologies, and Computer Models, W. Kodali
Time Harmonic Electromagnetic Fields, R. Harrington
- 2010 Interview of 3 Society Founders
At the 2010 IEEE EMC Symposium, Dan Hoolihan interviewed Society Founders: Milton Kant, Melvin First and Ralph Showers. The
interview was recorded by Espresso Engineering.
-
EMC Founders War Stories
At the 2007 IEEE EMC Symposium in Honolulu, several founders of the IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility Society
gave their recollections of the founding and the early days of the EMC Sociey.
- EMC-S members have electronic access to EMC Transaction and Proceedings
papers that can be downloaded (limit of 500 per year) at no additional
cost to members through IEEE Xplore.
- The 50th Anniversary Committee prepared a
video celebrating the first 50 years of our society and
historical events that have influenced the field of electromagnetic compatibility.
-
EMCS member interviews now available online
Interviews of several esteemed veteran members of the EMC
Society conducted by the
IEEE History Center as part of its series of oral
histories are available online. These include interviews
with Warren Kesselman, Leonard Thomas, Sr., Chet Smith and others. Also, check out the IEEE Virtual Museum.
- IEEE/EMC Transactions can now be read
online through the IEEE Xplore® system. They can be accessed by clicking the
Xplore® EMC Transactions
link in the left navigation bar. On the Xplore® page, select
“What Can I Access? under the “Welcome to IEEE Xplore”
option. You must have an IEEE web account to enter a
username and password in order to access to the EMC Transactions.
