     Each spring I attend the IEEE Panel of Editors meeting to learn the latest news about IEEE publications and meet the staff that manages the IEEE magazines and periodicals department, including the very popular Xplore digital library of IEEE publications. With over 300,000 IEEE members, it’s easy to see why the downloaded content from Xplore continues its record breaking pace with close to 84 million documents downloaded by all users (institutional and members) in 2008. Currently, there are over 2 million documents available on Xplore!
     It was interesting to learn this year that the number two and three sources of downloaded documents from Xplore in 2008 were published by our “Sister Societies” - the Microwave Theory and Techniques Society and the Antennas and Propagation Society, respectively. The number one source of downloaded documents from Xplore in 2008 was the Solid-State Circuits Society with 1,421,901 downloads. In comparison, the EMC Society was the number 57 source of downloaded documents in 2008 with 170,745 downloads.

The IEEE International Symposium on EMC –
A Legacy of Excellent Technical Papers
In addition to many excellent Transactions on EMC papers, we have had many excellent papers over the years at our annual symposium. Each spring, I look forward to seeing the advance program for the annual IEEE EMC Symposium. It’s always interesting to see the hot topics that will be presented by the many excellent and well known speakers in the EMC Society as well as to see who’s new and what students will participate this year.
