In 2006 the IEEE Board of Directors created several new Sections in China, which are supported by an
IEEE-funded office in Bejing under the direction of Ning Hua (n.hua@ieee.org). Given these actions, and with
the consent
of 2006 IEEE President Michael
Lightner, the Education Society began to formulate a chapter development plan. The first step in this plan was to
enlist a
cadre of IEEE exceptional leaders in the various IEEE Sections in China to facilitate the creation
of Education Society chapters throughout the People's Republic of China.
An initial plan was developed by Dr. Oliver Ban (bano@us.ibm.com), IBM-China's Chief Technologist, Supply

Operations, in cooperation with Dr. Rob Reilly (reilly@media.mit.edu), Chair, Chapters
Committee, IEEE Education Society.
Project Goals
The goals of this project are to:
1. Create functional Education Society Chapters in the:
IEEE Beijing Section
IEEE Chengdu Section
IEEE Guangzhou Section
IEEE Harbin Section
IEEE Nanjing Section
IEEE Shanghai Section
IEEE Wuhan Section
IEEE Xi'an Section
2. Work toward assisting IEEE and IEEE Education Society members to establish Sections in:
Shenzhen
3. Create a functional structure through which the various Education Society Chapters can most effectively function.
