REGION 10 CHAPTER WORKSHOPS
Kevin Peterson

Erling Hesla, Chapters Communication Committee Chair, and I had the pleasure of conducting two regional chapter workshops in April. These workshops were held in Hong Kong and New Delhi for Chapter Chairs and representatives from Sections interested in starting new IAS Chapters. The workshop programs focused on leadership and program planning.

The workshop in Hong Kong was conducted on April 13/14th at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Kowloon, China. The workshop had 12 attendees:

  • Dr. Gilbert Li, Region 10 East Area Chair
  • David K.W. Cheng, Hong Kong Chapter Representative
  • Edward Lo, Hong Kong Chapter Representative
  • H.T. Suen, Hong Kong Chapter Representative
  • David T.W. Chan, Hong Kong Chapter Representative
  • Norbert Cheung, PEDS ’99 Organizing Chair
  • Jun Gong, Bejing Chapter Representative
  • Dong-Seok Jeong, Seoul Section Representative
  • Kay Soon Low, Singapore Chapter Representative
  • M.F. Rahman, Sydney Chapter Representative
  • King Wah Yang, Hong Kong Student Representative
  • Koon Wun Yeung, Hong Kong Student Representative

The workshop in New Delhi was conducted on April 16th at the India International Center. The workshop had 9 attendees:

  • C. Satish, Region 10 West Area Chair
  • D.M. Tagare, Bombay/Pune Chapter Representative
  • Sujit K. Biswas, Calcutta Chapter Representative
  • S. Mukhopadhyay, Delhi Chapter Representative
  • Pardeep Jindal, Delhi Chapter Representative
  • R. Balasubramanian, Delhi Chapter Representative
  • Ajay K. Jandon, Delhi Chapter Representative
  • Madhava R. Udayagri, Hyderabad Chapter Representative
  • Natteri M. Parthasarathy, Madras Chapter Representative

Gilbert Li, Region 10 East Area Chair, and C. Satish, Region 10 West Area Chair, were instrumental in the success of these workshops. Each promoted the workshop to the Sections in their area and made arrangements for facilities. Both have done an excellent job supporting IAS Chapters and programs in Region 10.

All signs point to a successful trip. Besides the high marks from the workshop attendees, petitions for new chapters are underway in Indonesia and Seoul. Erling and I are grateful for the hospitality extended to us in both Hong Kong and New Delhi.
