Interested in an IAS Chapter?
You dont have a chapter in your Section? You are interested in networking with your peers in Industry Applications? Chapters provide a forum for professional growth, networking, and access to many of the products and services that the IAS provides. For example:
- $500 startup funds for newly formed IAS Chapters and IAS Joint Chapters
- Distinguished Lecturer and Regional Speakers Program
- IAS Tutorial Outreach Program provides Chapters access to successful conference tutorials
- Technical Video Library loans IEEE videos to Chapters
- Annual Workshop for Chapter Chairs at the IAS Annual Meeting
Starting a chapter may be easier than you think. The Chapters and Membership Department can assist you in establishing a chapter in your section.
What is required to start a chapter? A petition needs to be submitted to the Section Executive Committee (via the Section Secretary) for approval. It must be signed by not less than (12) IAS Section members above Student grade; for a joint chapter petition, at least (3) shall be members of each of the Societies involved. After the approval of the Section Executive Committee, the petition needs to be forwarded to IEEE Regional Activities.
Are you worried that it would be difficult to collect those (12) signatures? The petition process can now be completed via e-mail. The Chapter Development Committee Chair, Mark Harris (m.harris@ieee.org), can provide information from the IEEE database (including e-mail addresses) that can be used to establish contact with other IAS members in your Section, and with Section leadership. The Chapter Development Committee can also identify potential joint chapter opportunities (with PE, IE, PELS, etc).
The Chapters and Membership Department provides $500 startup funds for new IAS chapters or joint chapters to assist in developing local chapter activities. The Department also can assist chapters with program development through the Distinguished Lecturers Program, the Regional Speakers Program, the Technical Tutorial Program and the Technical Video Library.
