FIRE PUMPS, CONTROLLERS and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION

 

Presenter:        James S. Nasby, Columbia Engineering

 

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

 

James S. Nasby is the owner of Columbia Engineering, and was Director of Engineering at Master Control Systems, Inc. for 18 years. He has over 45 years of product design experience, including: fire pump control equipment, battery chargers, and other electrical and mechanical products, and holds several patents for this work.

 

He has a B.S.E.E. degree from I.I.T. He is a full member of the IEEE, SFPE and NFPA, member of NFPA-20 (Fire Pumps) Technical Committee, and a former member of NFPA-70 (the NEC) CMP-13. He also serves on several U.L. Standards Technical Panels relating to fire pumps and emergency power.

 

He has authored substantial amounts of material for the NFPA including past and scheduled technical seminars. This includes co-authoring chapters in the current and prior editions of the NFPA Fire Protection Handbook and the Fire Pump Handbook and Textbook.

 

ABOUT THE TOPIC

 

Presentation will cover the following topics:

 

- The newly and completely rewritten Power Supply requirements of the 2007 Edition of NFPA-20

- The differences between these requirements and those of the 2003 and previous editions of NFPA-20

- Define which sections of NFPA-70 (NECŪ) Article 695 are "extract text" from NFPA-20.

- An overview of §695 from the 2005 Edition.

- Proposed changes to §695 for the 2008 Edition of the NEC

- Changes to Articles 700 & 701 in the NECŪ Selective Coordination

- A brief intro to the new §708 - Critical Operations Power Systems (COPS)

- New requirements for junction boxes and wiring protective systems.
