IAS NEWS
With great sadness, we learned that Heinz van der Broeck, Professor at the Cologne University of Applied Science and Honorary Professor at RWTH Aachen University, passed away on May 8, 2009 after a short but aggressive illness. Heinz was an active member of both the IEEE Power Electronics and IEEE Industry Applications Societies. From 2007 till 2008 he served as Chair of the IEEE German Joint IAS-PELS-IES Chapter. Students interested in attending either the 2009 IEEE IAS Annual Meeting (IAS09), Houston, TX, Oct. 4-8, or the Energy Conversion Congress & Exhibition, San Jose, CA, Sept. 20-24, can apply for a Zucker travel grant to help defray the cost of their conference travel. These grants are available thanks to the generosity of Myron Zucker, a long time member and benefactor of the IAS. Guidelines and applications for this program are available here for IAS09 and here for ECCE09. Applications are due by August 1st.
Call for nominations - IEEE-SA STANDARDS BOARD AND COMMITTEES: The Nominations and Appointments Committee (N&A) of the IEEE-SA Board of Governors is soliciting the names of candidates to serve on the 2010 IEEE-SA Standards Board and/or its Standing Committees. Information is available here.

The Richard Harold Kaufmann Award Committee is calling for nominations for the 2010 award. This is an institute level award sponsored by the IAS. More information is available here.
The 5th IET International Conference on Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD 2010) will be held from 19-21 April 2010 in Brighton, UK. The Call for Papers will be open until 18 September 2009. More details are available at the conference website.
