The Richard Harold Kaufmann Technical Field Award was presented to AP "Sakis" Meliopolis at the 2005 IAS Annual Meeting in Hong Kong. Making the presentation was IEEE President W. Cleon Anderson. This award recognizes "'outstanding contributions in industrial systems engineering" and is named in memory of Harold Kaufmann who was an active member of IAS and was a recipient of the Society Outstanding Achievement Award in 1978. Sakis Meliopolis is a Professor in the School of Electrical Engineering at Georgia Tech. His citation reads "For contributions to power system grounding design and testing procedures"
