The Codes and Standards Committee is a duly constituted committee of the Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Department (I&CPSD) of the Industry Applications Society (IAS) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. (IEEE).
The Codes and Standards Committee is responsible for all matters within the scope of the IAS in which the emphasis or dominant factor specifically relates to electrical codes, rules, guides and standards affecting the design, installation or maintenance of industrial and commercial electrical power systems.
In particular, the members of the Committee shall be observant for information, relative to such documents, that would be of interest to members of I&CPSD. Examples of such documents include, but are not limited to;
National Electrical Code, (NFPA)
National Electrical Safety Code, (IEEE)
ANSI Standards
State and Local Codes
IEC Standards
OSHA regulations
Other NFPA standards
UL Standards, ASHRAE, Factory Mutual, and other international standards
The Codes and Standards Committee promotes the generation of proposals for additions, deletions, revisions, and the updating and improvement of these documents. The Codes and Standards Committee reviews, studies, codifies, and submits I&CPS generated proposals with Committee recommendations to the Standards Coordinating Committee 18 (SCC-18).
The members of the Codes and Standards Committee are required to be members of IEEE and of IAS. The membership of the Codes and Standards Committee is required to reflect activities of the IAS. The membership should represent a balance among geographical sectors, suppliers, users, specifiers and any other organization representing an industry that may be affected or have a concern in the scope of the Committee.
