ADMISSION
NUMBER OF ALLOWED PARTICIPANTS
Minimum number of participants: 10
Maximum number of participants: 50
The University of Milan reserves the right of delaying the beginning
of the Master program or even not activating it if the minimum number of
participants will not be reached.
The University of Milan reserves the right of increasing the number
of participants allowed to register at the Master program.
There is no restriction on the number of foreign students that can register.
REQUIRED DEGREE
To be admitted the prospective student must hold one of the following
degrees:
- Italian "Laurea" in the Classes of "Scienze e Tecnologie Informatiche"
(26), "Ingegneria dell'Informazione" (9), "Scienze e Tecnologie Fisiche"
(25), "Scienze Matematiche" (32), "Scienze Statistiche" (37), "Scienze e
Tecnologie Chimiche" (21), "Scienze e Tecnologie Farmaceutiche" (24), "Scienze
e Tecnologie per l'Ambiente e la Natura" (27), "Scienze della Terra" (16),
"Ingegneria Civile e Ambientale" (8), "Ingegneria Industriale" (10).
- Italian "Laurea", obtained according to the regulations in
force before the Decreto Ministeriale n. 509/1999, in "Informatica", "Scienze
dell'Informazione", "Ingegneria Informatica", "Matematica", "Statistica",
"Fisica", "Chimica", "Ingegneria Chimica", "Ingegneria Elettrica", "Ingegneria
Elettronica", "Ingegneria delle Telecomunicazioni", "Bioingegneria", or in
other topics equivalent to the previous ones.
- Degree, issued by any university worldwide, which is equivalent
to the ones mentioned above, e.g., in Computer Science, Computer Engineering,
Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Industrial
Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical
Sciences, Ecology, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Bionengineering.
For more information about the acceptable degrees issued by non-Italian
universities send an email to prof. Vincenzo Piuri, Director of IMSCIA.
APPLICATION
Prospective students must apply by submitting the following material:
- application form,
- curriculum, in which the applicant should point out his theoretical
and practical competences in alla areas of computer science and engineering,
as well as his knowledge in an applicative area.
The application deadline is 19 DECEMBER 2003. Late applications will be considered.
Registration at IMSCIA is not compatible with participation at other Italian "Laurea" and "Laurea Specialistica" Programs,
Master's Degree, PhD Programs.
Prospective students holding an Italian Degree (see the section above about "Required Degree")
AND an Italian Tax Identifier (called "Codice Fiscale") must perform the following steps to apply:
- fill in and submit the electronic form available in the web site of the Master's Degree Programs of
the University of Milan,
- print the filled electronic application form after submission,
- prepare and print the curriculum,
- send this printed form, the curriculum, and a copy of the Identification Document
showing photo and signature (e.g., passport, driving license)
by mail, fax, or email to:

Prospective students without the Italian Tax Identifier OR holding a non-Italian degree (see the section
above about "Required Degree") must perform the following steps to apply:
- fill in and sign this application form,
- mail the signed application form to:

Prospective students holding a non-Italian degree, that an Italian University already declared equivalent to
one of the Italian degrees which are required for admission to IMSCIA, must submit copy of the declaration
of equivalence with the curriculum.
If the equivalence has not been certified yet by an Italian university, a copy of the degree must be submitted
with the curriculum. In the case the application will be accepted, the student will be required to submit
the translation of the degree performed by the Italian Embassy or Consulate in the Country where the degree was earned,
and the declaration of the official relevance of the degree in that Country.
Titles to be considered in the selection procedure should be submitted with the curriculum.
They can be submitted either in original, or in copy (declared identical to the original by filling and
signing this conformity form), or by self-assessing it by filling and
signing this certification form.
Reception of all applications will be confirmed by the Secretariat. Please, allow for 4 working days to
process your application before contacting the Secretariat for any information.
An enrolled student who likes to leave IMSCIA should send a written resignment letter to
prof. Vincenzo Piuri, Director of IMSCIA.
If this happens before the actual beginning of the courses the paid registration fee is reimbursed,
except 258.20 Euro as general processing fee.
If the final exam will be passed, each student will be required to pay 78.00 Euro to obtain the final certification.

SELECTION PROCEDURE
The Commission for Student Admission will evaluate the participants according
to the following procedure:
- Curricula will be evaluated especially by taking into account
the knowledge in the areas of computer science and engineering and in one
application field, as well as the previous achievements (up to 80 points
will be given).
- Applicants will be interviewed (possibly through internet) to verify the owned competences
(including the fluency in the English language) and the attitude to attend
fruitfully the Master's program (up to 20 points will be given).
- The ordered list of applications will be published.
The applicants with minimum of 60 points in the evaluation procedure
will be allowed to register by following the precedence
order defined by the admission list until the available seats will not
be filled.
REGISTRATION FEES
The registration fee to attend IMSCIA is 2,582.00 Euro (two thousands
five hundreds eightytwo).
The registration fee includes:
- registration to all course of IMSCIA,
- tuition,
- tutoring,
- the web account to retrieve the educational material made
available electronically,
- exams,
- secretariat charges.
Text books, lecture notes, and other possible educational material are
not included, except the ones made available electronically through the
web account.
Travel and other costs in which the students may incur to attend classes
(also electronically), to give exams, and to attend the stage.
If the final exam will be passed, each student will be required to pay 78.00 Euro to obtain the final certification.
REGISTRATION DISCOUNTS
No financial support is made available by the University of Milan to
outstanding students.
The IEEE Neural Networks Society and the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society made available some
grants to their members to partially cover the registration fee. Each grant
will be approximately 500.00 Euro.
Members of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers - IEEE are entitled to a discount of
260.00 Euro.
The organizers are looking for some financial support, especially for students coming
from less economically favored Countries.
