ORAL PRESENTATION

Oral presentation consists of 15 minutes for presentation of the problem, the background, the innovative approach, the new results and the comparative evaluation. Additional 5 minutes are available for preparation (putting the CD in the computer) and for discussion with the attendees. Please respect the 20 minute duration allotted to each talk – going over 20 minutes stresses the Chair and audience and causes you to lose their respect and attention.

For all presentations, a personal computer (with MS Windows operating system) and computer projector will be available in the conference rooms.

The presenter should prepare a reasonable number of electronic slides, so as not to exceed the 15 minute time. Typically, 1 slide is presented in 1 minute. Additional slides could be prepared to support possible answers to attendees' questions.

Each slide should not be crowded with text and graphics. Too much text should be avoided: slides should support the presentation, they should not be simply read by the presenter.

Graphics help in communications, are more understandable, and point out the basic ideas.

Use large fonts so as they are readable without effort: typically 18 to 20 point fonts should be used.

Presentation should be clearly structured, here is a suggested outline:

  • Title page.
  • Outline the presentation with an index of the presentation.
  • Clearly state the basic problem, as well as the application area.
  • Summarize the background and previous work to provide a background and overall perspective for the results presented in the paper.
  • Clearly state the innovative approach.
  • Describe the approach to the application problem by pointing out the main features and characteristics, the problems, and the solutions.
  • Clearly outline the results and how they were evaluated. Present sppropriate comparisons with previous results.
  • Summarize conclusions from the work performed and point out the main innovation and results. Future work and developments could also be briefly sketched out.

The acceptable formats are MS Powerpoint and PDF. You will have to bring your presentation on a CDRom and give to the Chair of your session.

To avoid unpleasant delays during the sessions due to the need to change computers and to possible compatibility problems, you will not be allowed to connect your own computer to the projector.
