VENUE AND TRANSPORTATION

Ottawa is the capital of Canada and therefore the political hub of the nation. It is a beautifully maintained city at the junction of the Ottawa and Rideau rivers. Both within and outside of Ottawa there is much to see and do. Ottawa hosts up to 14 national museums, a beautiful canal, great historical buildings, and fine dinning. If you are an enthusiast of the outdoors Ottawa offers many walking paths along its rivers and parks. For more information on Canada's Capital visit Canada's Capital web site https://www.canadascapital.gc.ca and Ottawa's visitor's guide https://www.ottawa.ca/visitors/

At this time of the year Ottawa is hosting the world famous tulip festival ( https://www.tulipfestival.ca/ ). Millions of tulips create an exotic mosaic of colour and beauty along the 15 km Tulip Route.

TRANSPORTATION

Ottawa is easily reachable from all over the world.

BY AIR

Flights to Ottawa arrive at the Ottawa International Airport (https://www.ottawa-airport.ca/). From there is it possible to rent a car, taxi, or public transportation to the downtown area and directly to the hotel. By car or taxi this is about a 20 minute drive and costs approximately $25.00 Cdn. Public transportation by bus is also available by taking the route 97 (https://www.octranspo.com). You will need to get off at the Rideau Centre stop and take a 5-10 minute walk from there to the Chateau Laurier hotel. There are also hotel shuttles buses available for approximately $12.00 Cdn (https://www.ottawa-airport.ca/groundTransportation/hotelShuttle-e.php)

BY TRAIN

Ottawa is reachable also by train. All trains arrive at the Ottawa VIA Train Station (https://www.viarail.ca/cgi-bin/genericXSLT?xml=OTTW.xml&xsl=en_station.xsl)  located just South East of the down town of Ottawa.  The only passenger rail service in Canada is VIA Rail (https://www.viarail.ca). The train connects Ottawa to Montreal (including Montreal's Dorval airport) and Toronto (downtown only).

BY CAR

If you like to drive to Ottawa you will either be arriving from the East (Montreal) or West (Toronto) direction. You could come from the South (USA) but eventually all roads lead to the major East-West highway known as Queensway (Route 417). To get to the hotel from highway 417 follow the instructions below ....

  • Exit at the Nicholas Street exit
  • Follow Nicholas Street to Daly Avenue
  • Turn left onto Daly Avenue and follow until Colonel By Drive
  • Turn right onto Colonel By Drive and follow until Rideau Street
  • Turn left onto Rideau Street
  • Fairmont Chateau Laurier is immediately on the right

. . . BUT I WOULD LIKE ALSO TO VISIT SOME OTHER PLACES, NOT ONLY THE CONFERENCE ROOMS!

Well, you are right! Ottawa is on the border of the Ontario-Quebec border 200 kms North-West of Montreal and 450 kms North-East of Toronto. It is only 100 kms directly North of the US border with state of New York. In between there are many quaint towns and plenty of outdoor scenery, camping, and fishing. It is best to consult the Provincial tourism web sites. For Ontario https://www.tourism.gov.on.ca, for Quebec https://www.bonjourquebec.com/.
