Message
from the Chairpersons
The organizing committee welcomes you to the 2003
IEEE International Symposium on
Virtual
Environments, Human-Computer Interfaces, and Measurement Systems, held in Lugano, Switzerland, from July
the 27th to July the 29th, 2003 immediately preceding the
CIMSA symposium with which its program is coordinated. The three-day program’s
goal is to extend and advance the use of virtual environments and
human-computer interaction in the instrumentation and measurement field in an informal
setting arranged to encourage broad discussion about methodologies and results.
By inheriting part of the legacy of a previous series
of annual workshops going back to 1996, VECIMS addresses recent developments, results,
and practical experiences in computational intelligence in support of
measurement systems and applications.
All these activities are run under the sponsorship of
the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society and with the technical
cooperation of the IEEE Computer Society and the Instrumentation, Systems and
Automation Society.
Participants will identify opportunities and problems
in applying computational intelligence breakthroughs to the advancement of
instrument performance and measurement capability. Authors are encouraged to
restrict their formal presentations to brief summaries, and to use the bulk of
their allotted time to engage in extended dialogs with the participants. Appropriate subjects of discussion include,
but are not restricted to, examinations of approaches and results, the
rationale underlying particular methodologies, experimental and theoretical
examinations, practical difficulties, insights, and extensions to other
application areas.
We think you will find VECIMS’2003 a
challenging – and profitable – experience.
And although this is your "welcome" at the symposium's
beginning we wish to encourage you to give us constructive feedback that we can
pass on to next year's committee so they can make VECIMS'2004 even better.
