President's Column
by Mark Haselkorn
Nearly all of the good things that are done by the Professional Communication Society can be traced to volunteer members who devote time, energy, and talent to the many committees and positions that keep our society ticking. The primary purpose of this column is to let you know who these people are and to acknowledge their invaluable contributions to our society and field. My secondary purpose is to let you know of some changes in the officers this year.
First, my secondary purpose. For the past few years, Jeffrey Douglas has done an excellent job of serving as the PCS Treasurer. We are extremely grateful for all he has done, but it is time for him to move on to other activities. For this reason, we sought someone to fill the PCS Treasurer position. This position works closely with the President and all other committee chairs to manage the PCS budget and interface with IEEE Financial Management.
I am pleased to tell you that I have found such a person, and he is willing to accept the position. In the tradition of great PCS Treasurers, his name is either Steve or Jeffrey—in this case, Steve. Steve Flaherty is currently a program manager at the University of Washington and before that was an account executive and, prior to that, a client services representative. Steve's Master's degree is in education, and he has considerable experience working in communication technology environments. He is currently managing a number of very complicated and large budgets (far larger than the entire PCS budget). Steve and I already work together and this will facilitate his support of PCS.
Now for my primary purpose. Please join me in thanking the following for their ongoing service to PCS. If you have any questions or concerns, or just want to volunteer to work with them in their various areas, they are eager to hear from you. You can find their email addresses on the PCS website.
