Editor's Note: Tom Wiener came to our AdCom meeting to talk about this project. He's looking for volunteers to help with it. It sounds like a cool project.

IEEE Islands in Second Life
From SoCiety Sentinnel Online, 13 may 2009
Technical
Activities has offered the Top 10 Winners of the IEEE Student Branch Web
Site Contest a free villa on the IEEE Islands in Second Life. These villas
are located on IEEE Island 2 in Second Life and are open to student groups
from all regions within the IEEE.
The villas provide an opportunity for student groups to occupy and create
their own presence on IEEE Islands in Second Life without the heavy
involvement of creating their own building. There are pre-made assets
provided to occupants that allow them to easily populate the villas with
content. The University of Southampton and the University of Western
Australia are the first to successfully occupy their individual villa
spaces on IEEE Island 2. More events planned in the near future will be
announced shortly.
For more information, or to view video files of IEEE Islands in Second
Life, visit http://www.ieee.org/go/secondlife or visit Islands in Second
Life by following the steps in "Get Started in Second Life" at http://www.ieee.org/web/volunteers/tab/secondlife/get_started.html.
Wikipedia Articles Published About IEEE
From SoCiety Sentinnel Online, 13 may 2009
Due to the high visibility of
Wikipedia articles on the Internet, TAD staff has published short, factual
articles for societies that formerly did not have a Wikipedia presence.
To
see your society's article, go to the main IEEE page in Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE) and look for the link to your society's
article under "IEEE Societies" near the bottom of the page. We encourage
society webmasters to add to these articles using Wikipedia's "edit this
page" tab located at the top of your article's page. We also encourage you
to create an account with Wikipedia using a non-IEEE affiliated username
before you edit your page and read Wikipedia's editing instructions and
guidelines before you begin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_to_edit).
