2003 Distinguished Service Award Recipient
The first time Koosuke Harada attended PESC was in 1976 in Cleveland, where he presented a concept on cascade connections of dc-to-dc converters. Ever since, he and his students have attended PESC every year and have presented a number of original papers. At the same time, he has served PESC as a member of the steering committee for more than 20 years and has introduced PESC to a number of scientists and engineers in Japan.
In 1988, he served as the general chairman for the PESC held in Kyoto. This conference was the first PESC sponsored by the Power Electronics Society. In addition, Koosuke Harada participated in the founding of INTELEC as an Advisory Committee and a management committee member. In 1991, INTELEC was held in Kyoto, Japan where he served as a general chairman.
Koosuke Harada has published more than 370 papers, of which more than 170 papers are included in IEEE publications. Among them, 90 papers are in the IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics and in the publications of other societies such as Aerospace and Electronic Systems, Industry Applications, Magnetics and Reliability.
Koosuke Harada received BS and DR degrees from Kyushu University in 1953 and 1958, respectively. He was elected an IEEE Fellow in 1980, and received the IEEE PELS William E. Newell Power Electronics Awards in 1988, the IEEE Magnetics Society Achievement Award in 1996, and the 3rd Millennium Medal in 2000. He served as an IEEE PELS Distinguished Lecturer in 1996 and 1997.
