New Standards Under Development

A list of some of the new standards, recommended practices and guides is listed below:

Standard XXX

IEEE Standard for Inductors

Working Group Chairman: Dave Ratliff Phone: 517-546-6330 email:

Status: Gathering Information To Submit A PAR to the IEEE Standards Board

Proposed Scope:

This recommended standard presents a number of different materials, calculations and topologies for the electronics or power designer to examine. Equations for standard calculation of losses and operation are provided to enable the designer to evaluate the application that they are examining. The information used in this standard can be used for all types of inductors used in electronic or power applications. Some information used in this standard can only be used for specific applications as described herein. Several references will be made to IEEE Standard 389 in reference to temperature rise measurements.

The information provided in this standard is to be utilized as a guide only. The information in this recommended standard include those most commonly used in the inductor industry and many others less commonly used.
