July Meeting, Tuesday, July 24, Sergio Garza, Transmission Planning

Join us at our meeting on Tuesday, July 24, for a presentation on Transmission Planning and its implementation at the Lower Colorado River Authority. Sergio Garza of LCRA will provide us with the key factors that need to be taken into account as engineers plan new transmission systems and extension of existing ones.

The Chapter Committee is pleased to announce that the meetings for the remainder of the year have been confirmed and committee members have begun working in programs for 2008 such as a National ELectric Code class for February. If have topics you would like to see presented of would like to provide your colleagues the latest technology at work in your industry, please contact any member of the chapter officers . As always you are welcome to attend and present your ideas at the Chapter Committee meetings scheduled the second Tuesday of each month at Catfish Parlour on East Ben White.

We thank Jon Limbacher of Spectrum Lighting.for his well structured tutorial on light dimming methods and the latest word on the Lighting portion of the IECC 2006 energy code. It is expected that there will be significant impact on our design of lighting systems in Austin if the Council adopts the code this summer as expected. We also thank Jon for his generosity in providing us a copy of his Methods of Dimming and IECC presentations.

Many thanks to Eddie Schoenthal of Bonded Lightning Protection who wowed us with his excellent presentation on Lightning Protection. Not only was his presentation enlightening to us all but Eddie also provided us with many pieces of protection equipment for us to examine. It was a program well wroth our time.

Certificates. Mike Noth will be emailing certificates to all attendees to January's meeting that checked "yes" on the sign in sheet. You may also pick up your CE certificate at February's meeting.

Some attendees of our meetings have not been receiving their electronic copy of the IEEE Central Texas Section Newsletter, The Analog. If you are an IEEE member, your subscription is automatic to your profile on record at IEEE. IF you are not a member, you may subscribe. Details are provided at the Analog Webpage.

Be advised that there is not a lot of traffic on this list intentionally.  The list manager tries to keep it below 3 emails a month - The Analog, the mid-month reminder, and maybe an emergency announcement, but we prefer 2 emails a month.
