The Chapter Committee is pleased to announce that the meetings for the remainder of the year have been confirmed and committee members have begun working in programs for 2008 such as a National ELectric Code class for February. If have topics you would like to see presented of would like to provide your colleagues the latest technology at work in your industry, please contact any member of the chapter officers . As always you are welcome to attend and present your ideas at the Chapter Committee meetings scheduled the second Tuesday of each month at Catfish Parlour on East Ben White.

Committee Members Needed

IEEE PES has established an engineer of the year program that will us to recognize the outstanding contributions of one of our chapter members each year to power engineering and PES. The peer recognition of the winner will be embellished by an IEEE PES Plaque documenting the award. Details are provided in a Powerpoint presentation. In order to participate we need a selection committee of three to:

  • Determine the criteria our chapter's award
  • Develop forms and procedures
  • Evaluate submissions

If you would like to help your colleagues obtain this prestigious award and at the same time gain leadership experience by participating on this committee, please send Mike Noth an email at

Our thanks to Sergio Garza and LCRA

Many thanks to Sergio Garza of LCRA for his interesting presentation on Transmission Planning. There is a lot of work that must go into planning five years into the future and LCRA is known for doing it well. We appreciate Sergio showing us both the principles of planning and specific examples on how it is carried out in practice.

Continuing Education

Certificates. Mike Noth will be emailing certificates to all attendees to January's meeting that checked "yes" on the sign in sheet. You may also pick up your CE certificate at February's meeting.

Analog Newsletter

Some attendees of our meetings have not been receiving their electronic copy of the IEEE Central Texas Section Newsletter, The Analog. If you are an IEEE member, your subscription is automatic to your profile on record at IEEE. IF you are not a member, you may subscribe. Details are provided at the Analog Webpage.

Be advised that there is not a lot of traffic on this list intentionally.  The list manager tries to keep it below 3 emails a month - The Analog, the mid-month reminder, and maybe an emergency announcement, but we prefer 2 emails a month.
