National Electric Code Update Classes Scheduled for February

For our February program, the chapter will sponsor two National Electric Code update classes on Thursday and Friday, February 21 and 22. The IBEW was kind enough to let us use their Austin Joint Apprenticeship and Training Center in south east Austin, the same place we had the class two years ago.

The Thursday class is scheduled from 5-9 PM and will focus on material needed by electricians. The Friday class scheduled from 9 AM to 5 PM and will focus on material needed engineers. Attendees may attend both classes if they would like.

The classes will be led by a member of the Stallcup family, which has trained over 250,000 students in workshops, seminars, and in-house training, and continually receiving international recognition for our comprehensive and painstakingly illustrated publications. Stallcup's Illustrated Code Changes, 2008 edition, will be provided to students as a study guide.

We are expecting an attendance of about 90 engineers and electricians. If your company would like help sponsor the event with a table and display your products, please contact Mike Noth, , or Stacy Smith,

More information and fees will be provided as they become available.

Our Thanks to Tommy Darwin, for His Presentation on Ethics

Many thanks to Tommy Darwin for his exploration of ethics and “being ethical.” In his presentation, Dr. Darwin asked us to engage in conversation with our colleagues and others around us on what is ethical practice and how ethical issues should be resolved. He stressed that often the proper solution is not only based on our profession's ethical standards and our own personal moral values but is often dependent on each specific situation.

Dr. Darwin is a professor and the Director of Professional Development and Community Engagement, Graduate School, University of Texas at Austin. We appreciate him taking time from his teaching and administrative schedules to share his thoughts with us.

Analog Newsletter

The electronic Central Texas Section newsletter, The Analog, provides news of many of the other IEEE activities in the Austin and San Antonio areas. If you are an IEEE Central Texas Section member, your subscription is provided automatically to the email address in your IEEE profile. If you are not a member, you may subscribe following the procedures provided at the Analog Webpage.

Be advised that there is not a lot of traffic on this list intentionally.  The list manager tries to keep it below 3 emails a month - The Analog, the mid-month reminder, and maybe an emergency announcement, but we prefer 2 emails a month.
