January Meeting - Dr. Maher A Dayeh, Solar Storms

Geomagnetic storms that sometimes wreck havoc on technological systems such as orbiting satellites, Earth-based power grids, communication cables, pipelines, and railway signaling, among others. Our first meeting of 2010 will acquaint us with solar storms and their impact on our power networks. Dr. Maher A Dayeh, a scientific analyst with the Space Science and Engineering Division at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, will present The Dark Side of the Sun: Solar Storms and Their Influence on Earth.

If you plan to attend please RSVP to Kevin Ewing, kewing@shermco.com so he can pre-enter your name in the computer and reduce your waiting time at the meeting.

See the meeting announcement for more information and directions.

Analog Newsletter

The electronic Central Texas Section newsletter, The Analog, provides news of many of the other IEEE activities in the Austin and San Antonio areas. If you are an IEEE Central Texas Section member, your subscription is provided automatically to the email address in your IEEE profile. If you are not a member, you may subscribe following the procedures provided at the Analog Webpage.

Be advised that there is not a lot of traffic on this list intentionally. The list manager tries to keep it below 3 emails a month - The Analog, the mid-month reminder, and maybe an emergency announcement, but we prefer 2 emails a month .
