Fire Safety Implications for Power Engineers

but will also cover normal and emergency power issues, power
station fire safety, and fire alarm design. Specific questions
may be asked during the discussion following the presentation. |

| Speaker: |
Carl D. Wren, PE, Austin Fire Department, Emergency
Prevention Division. Mr. Wren is the Chief Engineer, supervising
6 professional or degreed engineers in the application of the
International Fire Code, International Building Code, Uniform
Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings, NFPA standards,
and other related codes and standards. Major projects reviewed
include hospitals, large semiconductor fabrication facilities,
retail malls, high-rise buildings, a convention center, hotels,
apartments, condominiums, and numerous smaller structures and
remodeling projects. He assists with the coordination and acts

for AFD’s newly promoted fire officers. He responds to
multiple alarm fires and other alarms as requested to provide
assistance to the incident commander; incident duties are
primarily related to water supply, systems in the structures,
chemical and radiological safety, and incident/post incident
structural concerns (firefighter safety and dangerous building
determinations, etc.). |
