2002 Winter Meeting

The minutes from the Vancouver meeting were approved.

Baran announced that he was stepping-down from the DSA SC Chair and that he had nominated Sandoval Carneiro Jr for Chairman. This nomination was presented to the PSACE AdCom and was approved.

Baran announced that Tom McDermott had also asked to step-down as Vice-Chair as he is changing employment and would no longer be able to participate on future PES Meetings.

Many committee members were engaged in other activities and were not present at this meeting.

Task Force on Feeder Level Modeling of Distributed Generation

Because of his change of employment, McDermott has also stepped down as this TF chair. However he sent by e-mail an extended document containing:

  1. The TF Scope
  2. Minutes of the WG on DR: Modeling and Analysis, Chaired by A. Morched
  3. Outline of the IEEE TF on Modeling and Analysis of Power Electronics Interfaced DR
  4. DG Integration Working Group Meeting Notice and Agenda for WM 2002
  5. Load Flow and Short Circuit Models for DG (excerpts from a case study for Esource)

Dugan reported that there are currently two sponsored studies:

  1. CIM- Common Integration Models , by EPRI
  2. Multi speak –data models for Distribution System Analysis, by CRN

He further suggested that the Data Dictionary be put on hold until new actions are discussed and approved by this SubCommitee.

Dugan agreed to take over, at least temporarily, as the TF Chair. It was felt that more members are needed for this TF.

Mesut Baran asked if there were people who have worked on Models of  DG for feeder analysis. Martinez mentioned the CIGRE Report on DG Modeling that has been chaired by Nikos Hartziargyriou. It was then suggested that Nikos should be invited to make a presentation to a Panel on

“Current Status of DG Models for Feeder Analysis”,

which could be organized for the Chicago Summer Meeting, July 2002. The proposal to put together such Panel was approved and Dugan agreed to be the chair.

Carneiro expressed concern over possible overlaps with other Committees, specially the Distribution Committee of the Distribution Subcommittee of T&D. Baran mentioned that our task should concentrate on analytical studies, whereas T&D Subcommitees are supposed to address more on operational problems.
