October 23, 2008 - WG F11D, E10D and Transnational Luncheon

DG F11D on Partial Discharges from Cable Accessories has posted an agenda for their meeting in San Antonio here.  DG E10D on International Organizations has updated their agenda posted here.  The Transnational Luncheon Agenda has also been posted under the presentations page.

October 20, 2008 - Standards Liaison and Sub C New Discussion Groups

The last minute additions to an already great program keep coming!  Standards Chair Shayne Wright has arranged for ICC's IEEE Liaison Soo Kim to be available for questions in San Antonio.  Come find out the answers to your standards questions Sunday from 3:30 to 5:00 PM, and Monday and Tuesday from 2:30 to 4:00.  Location will be posted at registration.
Also, Subcommittee C has two new discussion groups having meetings in San Antonio.  First, there is an Ad Hoc Committee entitled, "High Pressure Fluid Filled and High Pressure Gas Filled Pipe Type Cable Systems", which begins on Wednesday at 8:00 to 10:00 am.  Second, David Lindsay is going to reopen C22D "Superconducting Cables", on Wednesday, from 10:15 am to 12 noon.

An error in posting to the schedules for the fall meeting was just noticed today.  Anyone who has checked the presentation schedules for Subcommittees A or B in the last two weeks, please check again.  Sub B's schedule was mistakenly posted under Sub A.  If has now been corrected, and a preliminary Sub A program has been posted.

October 13, 2008 - Pre-Registration Closing Soon!

If you are one of the 230 people who already preregistered for our Fall ICC meeting, THANKS! If you have not yet preregistered and you plan to attend, it will help us immensely with planning and also save you some time during registration if you preregister online. Also, if you want to pay with a credit card, you MUST preregister online. (Credit cards will not be accepted on-site.) The registration website will only be available for 4 more days!! Please preregister by 5:00 P.M. this Friday, October 17th.

October 11, 2008 - WG D5W Ballot

Working Group D5W (P1185) has posted the comments from their recent ballot as well as revisions to their draft standard to the download site.  Chairman John Merando asks all members to review the documents, and bring a copy to their meeting in San Antonio.

October 10, 2008 - Table Top Displays

We have a large group of EIGHT table top display vendors planning to show the latest technologies at the fall meeting.  Their details are on the fall presentation page.  Plan to pay them a visit!

October 9, 2008 - Subcommittee B, Educational Program and DG E10 Agenda.

Subcommittee B has posted their schedule of presentations for their fall meeting!  Please check it out at the fall presentation page and plan to attend!  Also, more details have been posted on the educational program, which is a tour of Intertek Testing Service's Cable Flame-Testing Laboratory.  A schedule and a picture of a flame test have been posted to the fall presentation page.  Remember that you must register to attend this tour or you won't have a seat on the bus!  Finally, Willem Boone has posted an agenda for Discussion Group E10 on CIGRE/IEC on their page.

September 22, 2008 - Registration is Open for Fall Meeting!

ICC On-Line Registration is open starting today through Friday, October 17!  We encourage you to please Pre-Register, as this helps us in our planning as well as reduces the amount of time you have to stand in line at On-Site Registration. Remember, you can use a credit card (American Express, Discover, MasterCard, or Visa) to pay online, then just stop by On-Site Registration to pick up your official receipt and name badges. You can also register online and pay with cash or check. In any case, please print out a copy of your registration and bring it with you in case we have any difficulties. (We will not accept credit cards on-site.)  To preregister, visit www.pesicc.org.

September 10, 2008 - Fall 2008 Networking Luncheon

It's only 6+ weeks from the Fall 2008 Meeting!  If you have looked at the preliminary agenda, you will notice a new event on Monday, a Networking Luncheon.  The purpose of the lunch is to meet new people and to do more of what we all love to do so much during the breaks – talk! It will be a buffet lunch and, hopefully, something really good for dessert!  We hope many of you will attend, and you will find a spot on the registration form to sign up ($25).

September 1, 2008 - Fall 2008 Meeting Agenda and Announcements

August 2, 2008 - NEW Subcommittee F on Field Testing and Diagnostics

One of the major decisions by the Adcom at the Spring 2008 meeting was the creation of a NEW Subcommittee F on "Field Testing and Diagnostics."  Several existing working and discussion groups have been moved to this new subcommittee, to provide more focus on one of the most exciting areas in ICC.  Thanks are due to John Densley and Nigel Hampton who have agreed to be chair and vice chair respectively.  We look forward to their leadership in creating this new committee.  Follow the links to find out more about this new committee and it's mission.

June 2, 2008 - Spring 2010 Meeting

The contract has been signed, so it is now official, the Spring 2010 meeting will be held March 21-24, 2010 in Nashville, Tennessee at the Sheraton Music City Hotel!  You can find out a little bit more about the hotel at their website, http://www.sheratonmusiccity.com.  Mark your calendars so you can join us there!

May 16, 2008 - ICC Administrative Update

The Officers and Administrative Committee at ICC, along with everyone who knew him, are incredibly saddened by the sudden passing of our Chair, Shan Nandi. He had natural leadership ability, and he had great plans for our Committee.

As unexpected as this was, the ICC Operations Manual takes into account the inability of a Chair to perform his or her duties for any reason. Therefore, per the ICC Ops Manual and the IEEE Technical Council, Rachel Mosier will assume Shan Nandi’s responsibilities of ICC Chair for the remainder of his term, i.e., through December 31, 2009. Her role will then change from Acting Chair to Chair for the duration of her term (2010-2011). John Smith will assume Rachel’s duties as the ICC Vice-Chair for the remainder of Rachel’s vice-chair term. John’s role will then change from Acting Vice Chair to Vice Chair for the duration of his vice-chair term (2010-2011), at which time he will become the Chair (2012-2013).

There may be some challenges as we work through this transition. However, we can overcome any challenge by working together and supporting each other as we always have. That’s one of the ICC’s greatest strengths and what makes ours such a successful committee.”

May 5, 2008 - Passing of Chairman Shan Nandi

It is with great sadness that we must announce that ICC Chairman Shan Nandi passed away Sunday May 4th.  This comes as an enormous shock.  He was such an active person, and so healthy and young, it’s hard to comprehend. In addition to his family and to ComEd, this is also a huge loss for ICC. He had so much energy and so many great ideas.  He will be sorely missed.

April 21, 2008 - Spring 2008 Awards

There were a large number of awards and recognitions given out at the spring 2008 meeting, including the Dr. George H. Bahder Memorial Award, one of the highest awards ICC has to offer.  This prestigious award was given to John Densley during the spring meeting.  Read about John, and all the others who we honored at the Spring 2008 awards page here.

April 18, 2008 - Passing of Jim Moran

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of a long time ICC member and IEEE Fellow Jim Moran on Sunday, April 13, 2008.  His obituary as printed in the Albany Times Union is posted here.

April 18, 2008 - Working Groups D13W & A17W

Two working groups have made postings to the website.  WG D13W has posted a presentation and paper presented by Kent Brown at their spring meeting.  WG A17W has posted a starting draft for their project "Guide for the Application of Extruded Conductor and Insulation Shields for Shielded Power Cables Rated 5 kV to 500 kV AC" to the downloads section of the website.

March 12, 2008 - Spring 2008 Meeting Wrapping Up, on to San Antonio!

March 6, 2008 - Last Minute Updates

A last minute update has been made to the agenda reflecting some of the late room changes.  Also there has been a few more changes to the presentations, specifically for the Transnational luncheon.  Also, Tyco is a last minute addition to the Mini-Expo.

February 29, 2008 - Standards Update

February 28, 2008 - Final Agenda, Subcommittee Presentations

February 4, 2008 - Subcommittee A Presentations

Subcommittee A has posted abstracts of several exciting presentations for their session at the Spring meeting.  Check them out here to see what is in store at their session.

January 28, 2008 - Presentation Guidelines and Preload Procedure

A few changes are being made to the presentation preload procedure that all presenters need to take note of.  Beginning with the Spring meeting, all presentations must be submitted to the Subcommittee Chair/Vice Chair, who will preload the presentation onto the ICC computer.  We will no longer have preload sessions each morning, so prior contact with the Subcommittee Chair must be made in order to coordinate download of your presentation.  Note that the ICC computer will NOT be available in the moments immediately before each meeting, and that all presentations MUST be preloaded onto the ICC computer, with no exceptions.  Presentations may NOT be run from a flash drive.  Subcommittee Chairs will be in contact with you to coordinate their deadline for submission.  The memo to Subcommittee Chairs/Vice Chairs concerning this change can be found here.
Several updates have been also been made to the presentation guidelines, to bring them up to date with this new procedure and clarify several points.  If you are making a presentation, please take a moment to refresh your memory of the guidelines.

January 24, 2008 - Credit Card Users

Please note the following announcement from ICC Chairman Shan Nandi: "The ICC provides the mechanism to register for the Spring and Fall meetings on-line using credit/debit cards. Please note that once registered, you must contact the ICC Secretary for any requested changes or refunds. Refunds are only approved if requested prior to the first day of the meeting. Any approved refunds will be issued by ICC check only."

January 22, 2008 - Spring 2008 Registration and Agenda

The Spring 2008 meeting gets closer every day!  A week ago, members should have received an e-mail from the ICC Officers with details on our new online registration system at www.pesicc.org.  This is available for members and visitors/new members alike, and more details are available on the Spring 2008 meeting page or www.pesicc.org.  Also, Vice Chairman Rachel Mosier has posted the preliminary agenda  for the spring meeting.  Please remember, this is a preliminary agenda for planning purposes.  The exact schedule of specific group meetings will change before the meeting.

January 10, 2008 - Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to the ICC!  With the end of the last meeting, we brought in a new Chairman of the ICC, Shan Nandi!  Congratulations to Shan on his new role, and we look forward to his leadership going forward.  Apologies are due from the webmaster for the long delay between the last page update.  There are many today.

November 5, 2007 - Spring 2008 Meeting Date Change

Due to conflicts with other industry meetings, the dates of the Spring 2008 meeting have been moved by one week.  The new dates are March 9-12, 2008.  It will still be at the Tradewinds Hotel in St. Petersburg, FL.

The Mears Group and IMCorp have joined our slate of vendors for the Mini-Expo at the Fall 2007 meeting.  Working Group B6W on Application of Surge Arresters to Underground Cable Systems has posted their latest draft to the downloads section of the website.  Finally, Subcommittee C has posted their schedule of presentations for the fall meeting.

October  12, 2007 - C29 now a Working Group, Sub D Fall 2007, and C2D Documents

Congratulations to former Discussion Group C29!  They have received PAR P1727 Guideline For Working Procedures On Underground Transmission Circuits With Induced Voltage, and are now a Working Group.  Also, Sub D has posted some additional presentations for the fall meeting.  Finally, C2D has posted a draft to the download section of the website.

October  2, 2007 - Doubletree Availability

The Fall Meeting is proving EXTREMELY popular!  As of today, all the rooms available under the contract have been booked, plus all the additional rooms the Doubletree would add.  The Doubletree has provided a list of alternative hotels here.  Please note that these hotels are under no obligation to offer rooms at the group rate.

The registration form for the Fall 2007 meeting has just been posted to the website here.  It is also linked from the Fall 2007 meeting page.  Remember that as shown on the form, registration forms now go to Membership Secretary Thomas Arnold.  Remember to register by October 24 for advanced rates and a quick and easy check-in at the meeting.

September 27, 2007 - Educational Program on "Nuclear Power Plants Cable Systems"

The subject for this fall's educational program has been finalized, and is: Nuclear Power Plants Cable Systems.  Several exciting speakers are planned for this topic whose importance is seeing a resurgence.  More details are available on the Fall 2007 Meeting Page.

September 13, 2007 - Changes afoot at the PES

Chairman Jim Fitzgerald recently had a conversation with Pat Ryan the PES Executive Director.  Pat shared some interesting and exciting initiatives being undertaken by the governing board of the PES, including a change to the society's name.  Jim has provided us a summary of the PES initiative for all ICC members here.

May 10, 2007 - On to Scottsdale!

The Spring 2007 Meeting of the ICC is now history.  We had a very large crowd, with records set for several attendance categories.  We hope everyone will start making plans to come this fall in Scottsdale!

March 14, 2007 - Spring 2007 is coming SOON!

The Spring 2007 meeting is coming SOON!  There are less than eight weeks to go!  Chairman Jim Fitzgerald has posted the registration form.  Remember that registration forms now go to ICC Membership Secretary Thomas Arnold as noted on the form.  There is even less time to reserve your hotel room at the Rosen Center.  The cut off for our group rate of $166/night is April 5.  Details on making reservations, an invitation from Chairman Jim Fitzgerald and other information is available on the meeting page.

March 14, 2007 - Subcommittee Updates

Several committee and working group chairs have submitted updates to the website.  Subcommittee C has announced that Ted Nishioka of Arizona Public Service has agreed to take over as subcommittee vice chair now that Rachel Mosier has become ICC Vice-Chairman/Treasurer Elect.   Subcommittee D has posted updates to their presentation list for the spring meeting.  Working Group B8W has posted draft 4.1 of P1659 to the download site.  WG A7W has posted draft 9 v5 of P532 to the download site.

February 5, 2007 - Passing of Larry Kelly

Larry Kelly passed away on Friday February 2 after a long battle with cancer. Larry was an active member of the ICC committee for the last 40 years. His commitment and professionalism to our industry has been extraordinary and we will all miss his friendship. Our thoughts are with Rosemarie and their family.  Click link for published obituary.

April 10, 2006 -New Search Feature Available

Perhaps you've noticed the new button on the menu panel to your left: Search 47F-99S. Its a new search tool that is your gateway into the wealth of data in the ICC presentations stretching from the Fall of 1947 to the Spring of 1999. Many of you will recall the Minutes Manager database which enabled you to search on title, author, affiliation, location, keywords, date and location. We've taken that data and exported to a set of web pages linked it to an IEEE search engine. Give it a try. If you need a copy of a presentation but don't have that volume, follow the link How to Buy Copies of ICC Minutes at the bottom of the search results page.

Several ICC members are planning to run in a 10 km (6.2 mi) fun run on Sunday morning, March 12. February 2, 2006 - WG E1D, CIGRE

The ICC Committee and CIGRE will exchange communications and status of mutual interest at the Reno meeting. Mr Reinhard Schroth, Chairman of CIGRE SC B1, will give a keynote address regarding CIGRE at the Tuesday March 14 Transnational Lunch. In addition, a new ICC Discussion Group, E1D, has been formed for this technical coordinating effort and plan to meet at each of the ICC meetings beginning in Reno. Mr Schroth will also speak to this new discussion group and will participate in our Educational program. Along with saying thanks to Bill Taylor, we also get to welcome Jim Fitzgerald to his new role as ICC Chairman. Jim worked alongside of Bill during the last two years and is ready to lead us through 2006 and 2007. At Bill's side will be Shan Nandi in the ICC Vice Chairman position. Shan has been the ICC Standards Coordinator for several years. Filling that valuable spot will be Shayne Wright. Jim, Shan, Shayne and the other officers of the ICC will need your support. If you'd like to get involved in the activities of ICC, see these guys or any of the other ICC officers.

January 4, 2006 - Thanks Bill

December 31st marked the end of Bill Taylor's tenure as the ICC Chairman. Bill and his team had to meet some serious challenges (remember the Montreal hotel strike and the scramble to reschedule and relocate following Hurricane Katrina?). Thanks Bill for all of the hard work!! Be sure to express your thanks to Bill for all that he has done. Of course, Bill doesn't exactly get to rest now. The Immediate Past Chairman is a vital part of the management of ICC as he serves in a consultant role to the new officers and leads orientation meetings for new attendees.

Chairman Bill Taylor released the following message at the close of the Scottsdale meeting: "Dear Members, Thank you for supporting our meeting in Scottsdale on such short notice. It was an excellent meeting. It has been an honor to allowed to be the chairman of the ICC for the past two years and I thank you for all or your support. As you heard at the meeting, there is a problem with our spring meeting in Reno, as it was originally scheduled to start on April 16, which turned out to be Easter Sunday. Jim has contacted the Hilton and we have re-scheduled the meeting for Sunday March 12 through Wednesday March 15. The meeting will be at the Reno Hilton. Block out your calendars now and make your plans. Jim will provide additional details as we get closer to the event. Have a wonderful holiday season. See you in Reno."

September 14, 2005 - Fall Meeting - Registration

The meeting has been finalized for Sunday Oct. 30 through Wed. Nov. 2 at the Doubletree Paradise Valley Resort Hotel in Scottsdale, AZ. Attached is the registration form for our meeting. Unfortunately, since the T&D committee accepted registration money for us at the joint T&D meeting, we have no access to those funds and we'll have to wait for the T&D committee to refund our money individually. This also means that we will have to pay for this meeting as we do all of our meetings. I have sent a note to the T&D committee asking about refunding the ICC registration fees, but haven't received an answer as to when this will happen. It will occur, but the timing is still unknown. So please work with us as we have to collect this registration fee to pay for our meeting. The last date for pre-registration is October 14. If you register before then, you will get the early registration fee of $165 for IEEE members and $175 for non-members. After October 14th, the registration fee goes up to $185 for IEEE members and $195 for non-members, so register early.

September 14, 2005 - Fall Meeting - Hotel Registration

The ICC rate for the Doubletree Paradise Valley Resort Hotel is $139 per night for singles and $149 per night for doubles. Please register with them at 1-877-445-6677 to reserve a room for the conference. They will only hold our rooms at the guaranteed rate until October 7, so make your reservations early. If you'd like to arrive early or stay after our meeting, just let them know when you register and they will honor our rate if rooms are available.

September 11, 2005 - Fall Meeting Update from Chairman Taylor

We are still saddened by the tragedy in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. As they rebuild, we will also go on with our fall meeting. Jim has been working with the Doubletree Hotel in Scottsdale, AZ to work out a last minute contract and sight for our meeting. The contract should be finalized early this week and at that time we will send out a registration form and other pertinent information. As an advance note, the time slot that works for the hotel is Sunday Oct. 30 through Wed. Nov. 2, so if possible, please block out that time slot in your calendars for the ICC meeting. I know there will be conflicts with notice being this short, but we have received input that most people feel we should have a meeting to continue work on our standards. Please continue to support the recovery efforts for the Gulf Coast and support our meeting. More information to follow in the next few days.

September 2, 2005 - T&D Show Postponed - ICC Officers Considering Alternate Site and Date for Fall 2005 ICC Meeting

IEEE just announced that they are delaying the T&D show until Spring 2006 (see  http://www.ieeet-d.org/ ). The ICC meeting has NOT been cancelled or postponed yet. Chairman Bill Taylor and the other ICC Officers are working hard to look at our options for alternate sites and (perhaps) dates for the Fall 2005 ICC meeting. Keep checking back.

I have received lots of questions about the situation in New Orleans. If you've been checking the T&D website, http://www.ieeet-d.org/ then you know that the IEEE is looking for an alternative location. Until they make a decision, we will wait for them. If the show is cancelled, then we have tentative plans to have our normal meeting, on our own, and have contacted and have a proposal for Phoenix, AZ. for the end of October. If the T&D is able to find a place, relocate and proceed with the conference, then we will still meet with them. The meeting will definitely not occur in New Orleans and we'll let you know as additional information becomes available.

April 11, 2005 - Spring 2005 Latest Agenda and Update on Computer Projectors

At the close of the Fall 2004 meeting, ICC Officers voted to buy two additional computer projectors for use in Working Group meetings. These projectors will be available to those Working Groups meeting in the North Terrace and South Terrace rooms Monday through Wednesday. Chairman Bill Taylor has posted the Final Spring 2005 Agenda with updated room assignments. February 10, 2005 - Spring 2005 Educational Program - A Review of Secondary Underground Cable Basics

The topic of 600 volt underground secondary cable is seldom discussed at ICC meetings where medium and high voltage underground cables receive most attention. However, underground secondary cables form an important part of a utility system considering larger utilities install more than 1 million ft. of underground secondary cable per year and spend several million dollars annually on secondary underground cable repair costs. This Educational Program will focus on the topic of underground residential and commercial services and underground streetlight cables. Presentations from the cable manufacturers will cover the manufacture, design, materials and industry specifications covering secondary cables. Learn about the latest secondary cable design technologies and their potential benefits. Presentations from the utilities will focus on their experience with underground secondary cables and splices. The Educational Program will also feature a presentation on the results of a utility survey on secondary cables conducted specifically for the benefit of utilities attending this session.

February 3, 2005 - New Sub C Discussion Group on Induced Voltages

Subcommittee C is pleased to announce the formation of a new Discussion Group. Please contact Al Kong of PG&E at AxK6@pge.com for more information, or join him for the first meeting of the Induced Voltage Discussion Group in April. The concern is for the case where an energized transmission cable in a duct bank will induce a voltage on a de-energized cable that shares the same duct bank. This can be a problem when work on the de-energized cable is required (e.g., splicing) Watch the schedule for date and time of this new group!

January 31, 2005 - UCONN Acknowledges Bahder Award Scholarship

Vice Chairman Jim Fitzgerald has posted letters which he received from the University of Connecticut. UCONN was designated by the Bahder Award recipient, Carlos Katz, as host institution for scholarship funds from that award.
