Mike Walker - PES-ICC Past-ChairmanMichael L. Walker (M'87) was born in Madill, Oklahoma on August 31, 1952. He received an Associate in Electronics from South Oklahoma City Junior College in 1977 and a B.S. in Electrical Power Engineering Technology from Oklahoma State University in 1979. From 1971 to 1974 he served in the U.S. Army as a Specialist in Ground Surveillance and Electronic Warfare. Since 1979, he has worked for Houston Lighting & Power Company in Distribution Engineering. His expertise is in the utilization of overhead and underground cables for distribution applications, underground equipment and electrical conductor hardware. Mr. Walker has authored or co-authored various technical papers related to power cables and their behavior on distribution systems. He is a voting member of the ICC, a member of the AEIC-Cable Engineering Section, Chairman of the EL&P delegation to ANSI C8, and an industry advisor to EPRI on various cable projects. Mike was the recipient of the IEEE/PES Certificate of Appreciation at the Spring 2002 meeting in Colorado Springs.
