      Activities for Calendar Year 2004

1. Seminar on `OUTDOOR LIGHTINGS' on 10th February 2004

A seminar was arranged on Lighting of Mines in collaboration with Rowsons  Marketing Private Limited and M/s. Sigma Search Lights Ltd, Kolkata  on 10th February 2004 at M/s. Neyveli Lignite Corporation - Training Centre at Neyveli.  Mr.R.N.Singh, Director (Power) delivered the Inaugural address and a technical presentation was given by Mr.R.K.Bhandari, Managing Director assisted by Ms.Vnu Bhandari, Technical Director  of M/s. Sigma Search  Lights Ltd, Kolkata   It was  well attended by all Engineers of NLC and Thermal Stations Engineers.  The total number of attendance were 140.

2. . A Technical Workshop on Search and Security Lights  on 13th February 2004
A Technical seminar was arranged at CPWD, Rajaji  Bhavan, Besant Nagar, Chennai - 600 090 on 13th February 2004 in collaboration with Rowsons Marketing Private Limited and M/s. Sigma Search Lights Ltd, Kolkata.  Dr.G.V.Rao, Chairman & Managing Director of Rowsons Marketing  Pvt Ltd welcomed the engineers and also highlighting   about the PES  and Mr.R.K.Bhandari, Managing Director of M/s. Sigma  Search Lights Ltd, Kolkata gave a technical presentation on  Outdoor Yard Light fittings including High Mast Tower.  Mr.K.V.Rajendra  Prasad, S.E.  gave a  valedictory address and also highlighted  the excellent  presentation.  The total number of attendance were 40.
3.  Seminar on  `VENTILATED DRY TYPE TRANSFORMER' on  2nd April 2004
A seminar was arranged in Hotel Palmgrove on 2nd April 2004  in collaboration with Rowsons Marketing  Private Limited and M/s. Indo Tech Transformers Ltd on DUPONT Ventilated Dry Type Transformer .  Dr.G.V.Rao, Chairman & Managing Director of Rowsons Marketing Private Limited spoke about  future demands of VDT.  Mr.Manish Mistry and Mr.Dilip Patel of M/s. Dupont gave a technical presentation.  Vote of thanks was given by Mr.P.S.Jagdish, Managing Director of M/s. Indo Tech Transformers Ltd, Chennai.  The total number of attendance were  40.
4..   Lecture Programme on `E Paper' on 24th April  2004

Along with IEEE – Madras Section,  a Lecture programme  was conducted on 24th April 2004 at Hotel Westin Park, Egmore Chennai and the  topic was on `E paper’  which was presented by Mr.N.Chandra Sekaran, Chairman & Managing Director of  Esix.,  The meeting was presided by Er.P.Suresh Chander pal, Chairman IEEE – madras Section and the introduction of the speaker by Dr.G.V.Rao, Chairman IEEE – Power Engineering Society (Madras Chapter).  The lecture was very interesting and the total number of participants were  39.  A high tea was also arranged.

       
      5.  Lecture Programme on `Grid Operation in Tamil Nadu in the context of Electricity Act 2003’ on 5th June 2004
A Lecture programme was arranged in Hotel Palmgrove on 5th  June 2004  in collaboration with  IEEE – Madras Section  on `Grid Operation in Tamil Nadu in the context of Electricity Act 2003’ The  lecture was presented by Er.A.A.Sadagopan, Member (Generation) Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. The meeting was presided by Er.P.Suresh Chander Pal, Chairman IEEE – Madras Section and the introduction of the speaker by Dr.G.V.Rao, Chairman IEEE – Power Engineering Society  (Madras Chapter).  The meeting was  attended by all engineers and the total number of participants were 39 Nos.  A High tea was also arranged.
       
      6. Lecture programme on `Renewable Energy – The future Energy Source’ on 24th July 2004
IEEE – Madras Section and Power Engineering Society  jointly arranged for a lecture programme on `Renewable Energy – The future Energy Source’.  The paper was presented by Mr.K.Allaudin, IAS, Chairman & Managing Director, TEDA. Lecture programme was conducted on 24th July 2004 at Hotel Palmgrove, Chennai. The meeting was presided by Er.P.Suresh Chander Pal, Chairman IEEE – Madras Section and the introduction of the speaker by Dr.G.V.Rao, Chairman IEEE – Power Engineering Society (Madras Chapter).  The total number of participants were 43.  A high tea was also arranged.
       
      7.  Lecture Programme on  `Power Section Reforms – issues and Challenges’ on 27th  August 2004
Power Engineering Society (Madras Chapter) along with IEEE – Madras Section arranged for a lecture  programme on `Power Section Reforms – issues and Challenges’ on 27th August 2004 at Hotel Abu Palace, Chennai.  The paper was presented by Mr.S.Thangarathnam, Member TNERC, Regulating Authority. The meeting was presided by Er.P.Suresh Chander Pal, Chairman IEEE – Madras Section and the introduction of the speaker by Dr.G.V.Rao, Chairman IEEE – Power Engineering Society (Madras Chapter). The total number of participants were  31.  A high tea was also arranged.
       
      8. 8th SEPTEMBER 2004
 

 

A talk on `Ethics  in Engineering’ by Mr.N.Vittal, IAS (Retd.,) Former Chief Vigilance Commissioner of Govt.of India, Ex-Chairman, Commission of people’s Empowerment (Cope), Andhra Pradesh jointly arranged  along with IEEE – Madras Section on 8th September 2004.  The topic was on effective functioning with honesty, credibility, integrity, transparency, conscience, loyalty etc.. A very  good response. The meeting was presided by Er.P.Suresh Chander Pal, Chairman IEEE – Madras Section and the introduction of the speaker by Dr.G.V.Rao, Chairman IEEE – Power Engineering Society (Madras Chapter). The total number of participants were 53 Nos. A refreshment was arranged.
      9. Seminar on `LATEST TREND IN ENERGY CONSERVATION' on 25th September 2004

We arranged a seminar on `Latest trend in Energy Conservation’  conducted at Hotel Taj Garden Retreat, Madurai, Dr.G.V.Rao, Chairman, IEEE – Power Engineering Society (Madras Chapter) and Chairman & Managing Director of Rowsons Marketing Private Limited welcome the gathering and presented a  CD on Environment Technology  comprising of Windmill, Solar, Lighting &  Bio mass and it was very interesting.  Er.P.S.Jagdish, Executive Director, M/s. Indo Tech Transformers Ltd, Chennai presented a paper on `Energy Efficient Transformers’, Er.R.K.Bhandari, Managing Director, M/s. Sigma Search Lights ltd, Kolkata presented a paper on `Design on Lighting High mast Towers and Energy saving Luminaries’, Er.G.Srikanthan, Managing Director, M/s. Enolar Systems Marketing Pvt Ltd, Bangalore presented a paper on `Energy Conservation in Industries through Solar Energy’, Er.Ravi Mahajan, Managing Director, M/s. Muskaan Engineers, Ludhiana presented a paper on `Voltage Stability through servo voltage controller’.  The presiding officer was Er.Suresh Chander Pal, Chairman IEEE – Madras Section.  There was very good interactions by the participants who participate from various parts of Southern Districts.  The total number of participants were 320 Nos.  Transport for picking up the delegates to the hotel and Break Fast, Lunch and evening coffee was arranged for all engineers.

       
      10. Lecture Programme on `Quality & Security of Electric Power Delivery Systems' on 18th November 2004
We arranged a distinguished lecture programme  on 18th November 2004 by Dr.Rao S.Thallan, Faculty Member in Arizona State University Tempe, Arizona and Former Executive committee member of the Arizona Power Quality Association  at  EEE Hall, College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University, Chennai and the topic was `Quality & Security of Electric Power Delivery systems’. Dr.G.V.Rao gave the welcome address.  It was well attended by engineers and students.  The total number of participants were  36 Nos.  A high tea was arranged.
      11. 14th December  2004

 

 

 

 

 

To  Commemorate the `Energy Conservation Day'.  A  factory visit and a training programme on Power & Distribution transformers was arranged on 14th December 2004 headed by Er.Upendra Das, Member, IEEE - Power Engineering Society (Madras Chapter) along with three members and the Public Works Department of Tamil Nadu headed by Er.Raghunathan.  The meeting was arranged at M/s. Indo Tech Transformers Ltd, Thirumazhisai which is located about 36 kms away from Madras city.  The lecture given by Er.Upendra Das which was well appreciated and the total number of engineers attended were 20. Rowsons Transformers Manual on Power & Distribution transformers was also given to all the engineers.Refreshments was also arranged by them.
