At the IEEE Phoenix Section Annual Banquet held on February 9, 2008, the Phoenix PES Chapter was named the Outstanding Chapter/Society for 2007! This honor was bestowed upon us "in recognition of outstanding performance and advancement of Power Engineering Society Phoenix Chapter Activities". The only way we were able to accomplish this was through the efforts of each person who participated in and helped organize our various activities in 2007. These include our technical meetings, golf tournament and the officers completing all of their required paperwork and duties. In particular, the PES was ably represented on the IEEE Phoenix Section Executive Committee by our past Chair - Jim Hudson. Jim was the face of the PES to the Phoenix Section in 2007 and he consistently attended the meetings and provided updates regarding our activities. Phoenix PES also would like to say "Thank You" to all of you who helped make the award possible - particularly because of your attendance at our monthly technical meetings. Hopefully, we will maintain the high level of activity in 2008 and beyond and continue to strengthen our chapter.

"There ain't no such thing as a free lunch." Well, in 2008, college students attend (and eat) FREE at each IEEE PES Phoenix Luncheon! You don't have to be an IEEE Member to qualify. Please register in advance of the luncheon. (You eat free, but IEEE PES still pays for the food. So, if you register, please attend. If you already registed but can't make it, please cancel your reservation here.)

Each year, our chapter presents an "Outstanding Engineer Award" to a local engineer "for outstanding contributions to the power engineering profession." We encourage you to nominate persons who would qualify for such an award. Our 2007 Outstanding Engineer was Doug Selin, a Consulting Engineer in the Technical Projects Engineering group at APS. For more information on qualifications for the Award and how to nominate someone, click here. The nomination deadline for the 2008 Award is November 21st, 2008.

If you are attending a luncheon meeting at the APS Deer Valley facility, please be advised that there are enhanced security measures in place. Visitors must now park only in the lot at the northwest corner of 21st Avenue and Cheryl Drive. Check in at the security guard booth as you enter the parking area on Cheryl Drive, then you will need an APS employee to escort you to the conference room. When you use our lunch registration form, be sure to indicate your employer; that way, we know if you are not an APS employee and will need an APS escort. Click here for a map to the APS Deer Valley facility.
