Summary:
Dr. Heydt's presentation was an overview of how power quality is portrayed as a topic in the power engineering program at ASU.
The presentation began with general remarks on both electrical engineering education and power engineering education.
Data on enrollments were given – both at ASU and nationally. The power program at ASU was described as well as ASU's involvement as
a member of the Power Systems Engineering Research Center, a national resource on power engineering.
The program was attended by 16 people who enjoyed Dr. Heydt's presentation.
Biography:
| Gerald Thomas Heydt is from Las Vegas, Nevada. He holds the B.E.E.E. degree from the Cooper Union in
New York and the M.S.E.E. and Ph.D. degrees from Purdue University. He spent approximately 25 years as a faculty member at
Purdue, and in 1994, he took the position of Director of the NSF Center for the Advanced Control of Energy and Power Systems at
ASU. He has industrial experience with the Commonwealth Edison Company, Chicago; E.G. & G. in Mercury, Nevada; and with the
United Nations Development Program. In 1990, he served as the program manager of the National Science Foundation program in
power systems engineering. He is the author of two books in the area of power engineering. Dr. Heydt is also vice-chair of the IEEE
Power Engineering Society-Power Engineering Education Committee. |
