Summary:
Denny Brown from Pinnacle West Capital Corporation gave an interesting presentation covering the changing role of computer technology
over the past 30 years. Historical photos of the first computer systems used at Arizona Public Service Company were shown and the changes
and evolutions of technology on the Power Industry were discussed. Denny gave his predictions of how new technology will affect the power
industry in the future.
The interesting presentation was attended by 25 people and questions were fielded after the presentation.
Biography:
Denny L. Brown is Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Pinnacle West Capital Corporation (Pinnacle West). He has
been involved in the utility industry for 25 years, holding various management positions for APS, Stagg Systems, Inc., and IBM.
He was named VP, Information Services Division of Pinnacle West Capital Corporation in July 2001. Information Week, a leading
technology news publication ranked PNW 10th among 500 companies for its creative use of technologies and business practices
during his first year.
Prior to joining the Pinnacle West Capital Corporation, Brown served as Global Solution Executive for IBM, Utilities and Energy
Services where he was responsible for the worldwide Power Trading and Energy Management (PTEM) solutions business within IBM’s
Utilities and Energy Services Industry.
In 1992, he was appointed President and General Manager, Stagg Systems Inc., reporting to the CEO. At the time, Stagg was a
wholly-owned subsidiary of APS. Upon coming to APS, Brown held several management positions including design engineering,
operations, systems integrations, systems planning, and corporate modeling.
Brown holds a B.S.E.E. with honors from Arizona State University and is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Arizona.
Denny has been an active member of the IEEE since 1973. He is currently serving on the PNW PAC Board and has held several
civic and community leadership positions. Denny and his wife, Paula, reside in Phoenix, Arizona. Both Denny and his wife are
actively involved in community affairs.
