Dynamic Security Assessment in Power Systems |
Abstract:
Dr. Vittal provided an overview of dynamic security assessment in power systems. He highlighted the main technical issues associated with on-line dynamic security assessment, the tools currently available, and the impact such tools have in real time power system operation. In addition, he provided an interesting overview of the sequence of events and root causes of the August, 2003 blackout in the Northeastern U.S. and Canada. 24 persons attended the meeting.
Biography:
Dr. Vijay Vittal is currently the Ira A. Fulton Chair Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Arizona State University. He recently moved from Iowa State University to Arizona State University and well known and published in the electric power engineering field.
