AMI-Advanced Metering Infrastructure |

Abstract:
Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) in its various forms has been available to electric utilities for several decades. Historically, utilities have been very slow in adopting these evolving technologies for a variety of reasons. Those that did invest in systems most often chose to implement simple drive-by RF solutions whose primary objective was to reduce the costs associated with monthly meter reads. Recent technological advancements combined with national and local regulatory initiatives have given rise to a new breed of technology loosely defined as Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) whose functions and features reach far beyond the meter reading department. Attendance was 27 (including the speaker).
