LSBB - Univ. Nice, Sophia Antipolis
(Laboratoire Souterrain Bas Bruit de Rustrel-Pays d'Apt)

  • Main Activity: Low noise level instrumentation, permanent observation of sismo-magnetism, sismo-iono spheric magnetism and Schumann waves.
  • Description: LSBB has an underground chamber of 1250m3 without µmetal, but nevertheless with a magnetic noise level  of about 3 fT/sqr Hz above 40Hz  thus equal to PTB zero gauss chambers. However we are not a zero gauss chamber, hence a test site suitable for extremely high sensitivity study of natural phenomena at low frequencies.  We currently magnetically detect the arrival of seismic ground waves as well as  magnetic responses when these waves reach the bottom of the ionosphere.
