Abstract — We present first joining experiments of YBCO layers from commercial tapes. Additionally applied MOD coatings are proposed and considered to improve this technique to achieve in future a fully superconducting connection, in particular of future striated tapes. Furthermore, the achieved excellent performance of MOD layers for buffers and non-fluorine YBCO is presented. The quality of the crack-free and excellent cube textured buffer coatings is demonstrated by MOCVD of YBCO on top, which resulted in critical current densities up to 2.1 MA/cm2. F-free MOD of YBCO was successfully performed on SrTiO3 (100) single crystals with critical current densities up to 2.8 MA/cm2. On all solution deposited samples YBCO showed inhibited transport current caused by BaCO3 and BaCeO3 formation.
