What
is the IEEE?
The IEEE (The Institute of
Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. )
- Whose technical interests are rooted in the
electrical and computer sciences, and in
- Engineering and related disciplines for the
public benefit.
IEEE'S PREDECESSOR FOUNDING SOCIETIES WERE
THE AIEE AND THE IRE
The
AIEE
The AIEE was the American Institute of Electrical Engineers
It was formed in
1884 and was American in scope
AIEE was fomed to host foreign electricals at the International
Electricals Exhibition held in Philadelphia
AIEE focused on power and wired telegraphy
The IRE was the Institute of
Radio Engineers and was formed in 1912
The IRE was Transnational in scope
IRE was formed to focus on the new radio and electronics technologies
IN 1963 THE IEEE WAS FORMED WHEN AIEE AND IRE WERE COMBINED
IEEE’s Original Constitutional Purpose (from 1884 til 1972)
