Enjoy
a relaxing evening at the North Carolina Museum of History for dinner and
educational enrichment. The museum will
be open to all attendees and will feature the museum’s newest exhibition The Story of North Carolina. This 20,000-square-foot exhibit traces life in North Carolina from its earliest inhabitants
through the 20th century. Discover captivating artifacts, multimedia
presentations, dioramas, and hands-on interactive components. Additionally, two
historic houses and several re-created environments convey places where North Carolinians have lived and worked.
Also see this
year’s award winning exhibit Behind the
Veneer: Thomas Day, Master Cabinetmaker that received three major awards for
outstanding achievement from two national organizations: the American
Association for State and Local History and the American Association of
Museums. Behind the Veneer features
furniture made by Thomas Day, a free man of color who owned and operated one of
North Carolina’s
largest cabinet shops prior to the Civil War. In addition to showcasing
approximately 60 pieces of furniture crafted by this accomplished artisan and
entrepreneur, Behind the Veneer
explores the extraordinary story of a man who succeeded and flourished despite
shrinking freedoms for free people of color in antebellum North Carolina.
