A journey towards positive environmental impact beyond carbon neutrality

Hosong Hwang (Samsung Electronics)

Biography: Dr. Hosong Hwang is currently the Corporate Vice President and the Head of the Environment Team in Samsung Electronics’ Device Solutions (Semiconductor) Division. As the head of the environment sector his responsibility includes works related to pollution control, resource circulation and ecosystem monitoring. In addition, he is also in charge of sustainable management which takes into account subjects such as climate change response, expansion of renewable energy and so on. As a Ph.D. in Environmental Policy he has an expertise in developing and managing strategies related to local and global environmental issues. In particular Dr. Hwang has extensive insights in the fields of reaching net zero (climate change management), and strategies for sustainable development and nature conservation. Prior to his current position, he has successfully led the Environment Team in Samsung Institute of EHS Strategy. He was responsible for the development and implementation of environmental policies throughout the Samsung Group, and also conducted research on climate change, corporate assessments, safety management and so on. Dr. Hwang holds a doctorate degree at Imperial College London, UK, and received his master’s degree in Environmental Geochemistry and bachelor's degree in Mineral and Petroleum Engineering at Seoul National University.
