According to legend Bangalore got its name from King Veera Ballala of Hoysala King of Vijayanagara. Once he had lost his way in the forest and being hungry and tired, an old lady offered him baked beans (known as 'Benda Kalu' in Kannada). In gratitude for the old lady and findling this humble meal very tasty, the king named the place "Benda Kalu Ooru" which meant the place of baked beans.
It was later in 1537, Kempe Gowda developed Bangalore into a modern city of which recorded history exists. Over the years, Bangalore is fondly known by various names such as "The Garden City", "Pensioners Paradise", "Pub City", "Silicon City", etc. Bangalore will be now renamed as Bengaluru.

Bannerghatta National Park is about 22 km from Bangalore in Karnataka. It is a home to many endangered animal species. It is a natural forest and has one of the largest collections of carnivores in any bio-park in the state. This zoological garden is spread over area of about 25000 acres.
