The Truth About the JFK Assassination. Signal Processing Tells The Story. Time: 17:39 Series: Oral History
|
President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, U.S.A. in November of 1963. Although an investigation soon concluded that only one gunman, Lee Harvey Oswald, shot at President Kennedy, there is a community of skeptics that exist to this day who think that there was another gunman. Thirteen years later, the U.S. Congress Select Committee on Assassinations reopened an investigation of the President's assassination. The Committee learned about some recordings of the Dallas Police radio traffic, and they speculated that somewhere on these recordings there might be the sounds of gunfire, perhaps even allowing investigators to determine how many shots had been fired. In 1982, the investigation was reopened yet again. Mr. Charles Rader, an IEEE member, served on the Committee on Ballistic Acoustics. This award winning program is based on the science of "Signal Processing" and discusses the findings of this committee.

New Webinar Series Launched
|
The IEEE-USA Employment and Career Services Committee has launched a webinar series that will assist all IEEE members in finding their next job, negotiating an appropriate salary, understanding ethical considerations in the workplace and keeping IEEE members on their chosen career paths. So far these webinars have been met with rave reviews with attendees saying, “This session was very informative! I would attend future sessions,” and, “Please do more sessions, ASAP.”
The next scheduled webinar, Funding the Green Sector, is 9 December 2009, moderated by Masa Ishii. It is an overview of the new opportunities for attracting sources of funding for entrepreneurs in the green sector. Mr. Ishii will cover: Brief introduction to Noventi; VC landscape in Greentech Market; How Noventi finds deals; What kind of due diligence Noventi conducts; How Noventi works with investee companies; and point of view on exit. Register today.
In addition to the 2-3 webinars the Committee plans to have on a monthly basis, past webinars are available for on demand viewing at IEEE-USA’s Web site. Go to the IEEE-USA website and check out upcoming and past webinar sessions.

Reliability is a design engineering discipline which applies scientific knowledge to assure a product will perform its intended function for the required duration within a given environment. This includes designing for the ability to maintain, test, and support the product throughout its total life cycle. Reliability is best described as product performance over time. This is accomplished concurrently with other design disciplines by contributing to the selection of the system architecture, materials, processes, and components -- both software and hardware; followed by verifying the selections made by thorough analysis and test.
Reliability is a product design attribute that cannot be ignored! Every design has reliability characteristics - It is a critical ingredient of all designs created within all industries. It is far better to explicitly consider reliability than to ignore it and hope for the best!
