The IEEE Bangalore subsection was approved in 1971.
It became a Section on 13 July 1976, when India section was reorganised. At the time of its funding, the territory of the section included Karnataka, Kerala, TamilNadu and Union territory of Pondicherry.
Tamilnadu became a Section in
1978 and Kerala became a Section in 1983.
It is one of the most active sections of IEEE in India.
In 1976, the section had 313 total members consisting of 240 higher grade members and 73 student members. In comparison, it has 1657 members including 4 Fellows, 99 Senior Members 744 Members and 341 Associate Members and 469
Student Members as on 31 Dec 2000.
It conducts an Annual Symposium and BRV Varadan memorial student paper contest every year apart from numerous lectures and tutorials.
