Report on Annual General body Meeting for year 2000

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Bangalore Section of the IEEE for the year 2000 was held on February 10, 2001 at Hotel Capitol. The AGM was well attended with 73 members participating. The total strength of the gathering was 112. Prof. K. Rajgopal chaired the meeting.

Welcome

Dr. S.Pal welcomed the gathering. A minute of silence was observed in the memory of Mr. Raghuraj Ashiya, who passed away in March 2000.

Minutes of the Previous AGM The minutes of the AGM for 1999 were distributed and considered for adoption. Mr. Murthy commented that matters arising out of the last AGM be taken up. The Chairman assured that he will explain the actions in his remarks. Mr. Bhagwath proposed adoption of the minutes and Mr. Murthy seconded the same. The minutes were accepted for adoption.

Report of the Secretary for the year 2000

The details of the various activities of the Section, as given in the Annual ReportA.Anoop presenting the secretary's reportSection of the audience, was presented by the Secretary, Mr. Anoop A. Mr. Murthy proposed adoption of the report and Prof. Khincha seconded the same. The Secretary's Annual report was accepted for adoption.

Report of the Treasurer for the year 2000

The Treasurer, Mr. K. Ramakrishna, detailed the fiscal matters of the Section as given in the financial statement. Considering the surplus that the Section has, there was a suggestion that the Section pursue steps towards acquiring of building premises for its office. Chairman replied that some preliminary discussions are on going in this regard. Mr. Murthy suggested that a note be added in the report that the CCSP accounts would be presented in the next year's report. Prof. Jenkins proposed the Financial Statement for adoption and Mr. Murthy seconded the same. The Financial statement was accepted for adoption.

Other reports

a. CCEM chapter annual report.

Mr. S. Nagarajan presented a report on the activities of CCEM chapter during 2000. He thanked the volunteers and the Section for the support and cooperation.

b. GOLD group annual report

Mr. Anoop presented a report of the activities of the GOLD group in 2000.

c. Signal Processing Chapter annual report

Prof. V.Umapathy Reddy presented a report of the activities of the Signal Processing Chapter in Bangalore.

d. SJCE Student Branch annual report

Mr. Akshay, Chair, SJCE student branch, presented a report of the activities of the branch in 2000. The highlight of the year was Cyberia and the visit of the Section colloquium.

e. Basaveswara Engg. College, Bhagalkot Student Branch annual report

Prof. Suresh Jangamshetty, Branch Counselor, Basaveswara Engg. College, presented a report of activities of the branch. He requested the Section to consider having programs in his locality, which would also help rejuvenate the student branch.

Presentation of B.R.V. Vardan awards

Prof. Jenkins presented the Student awardsB.R.V. Vardan awards for the Student paper contest. Sharath K. Udupa, Prashanth Mekara and Akshay won the first prize from SJCE, Mysore. The second prize was won by Arijit Ghosh, Swaminathon S. and Ravikumar V.C. of SJCE, Mysore. Akshay collected the awards on their behalf.

Presentation of the Millennium medals

Prof. Jenkins presented the Millennium medals to the recipients. The recipients are Prof. H.P. Khincha, Prof. Jenkins, Mr. Parameswaran, Prof. Rajgopal, Dr. Pal, Mr. Sankaran and Mr. Srinivasan. Prof. Rajgopal presented the medal to Prof. Jenkins. Mr. Parameswaran and Mr. Srinivasan could not be present at the meeting.Millenium awards

Presentation of the IEEE Section GOLD Leadership Recognition Award

Prof. Jenkins presented the Section GOLD Leadership recognition award. Anoop received the award on behalf of the GOLD group.

Election of the Executive Committee for 2001

The Chairman of the nominations committee, Prof. Jenkins presented the nomination slate for the year 2001. He remarked that as per convention, the Chairman and other office bearers would be continuing for a second year. He explained the process for election. There were no nominations by petition for election to the EXECOM and the members in the nomination slate were elected unanimously by the AGM.

Remarks of the Chairman

The Chairman, Prof. K. Rajgopal, informed the gathering that the Section was celebrating the Silver Jubilee year of its operations along with Delhi, Bombay and the India Council. He welcomed suggestions from the members on how to celebrate the event. He remarked that the Section has had a very active year. One major step was the launching the home page of the Section. The Section technical colloquium at SJCE, Mysore was a bold step to reach out to the membership base outside Bangalore. He said that more steps would be taken to rejuvenate the Student Branches during the year.

Any other Matters

There were points raised regarding arrangements for payment of IEEE dues in Indian Rupees and the late receipt of IEEE Spectrum. Mr. Sankaran assured the gathering that the Section leadership would be bringing the issue to the attention of the Region 10 leadership. Mr. Arjun Rao informed the gathering that members could post the dates of receipt of Spectrum for each month. This would help in knowing whether the latest issue of Spectrum had already been delivered. ****************************************************************************
