The IEEE is
the world’s largest technical professional society connecting more than
300,000 members and nearly 70,000 students to the latest information and the
best technical resources available. Founded in 1884 by electrical engineering
innovators who understood the value of shared information, the IEEE vision is to
advance global prosperity by fostering technological innovation, enabling
members’ careers, and promoting community worldwide. Members of the IEEE lead
the world to new technical developments, formulate internationally recognized
standards and impact the global community.
IEEE is a
global society, which is divided into 10 regions. Under the region 10- Asia and
Pacific there are many councils
relating to different countries. IEEE
came to India in 1976 under India Council and Bombay section was formed. Many
more sections were formed since then.
To serve the state of MP in a more meaningful way, recently in the year 2001, IEEE has approved a new MP sub-section under the Bombay section. This had become possible due to the untiring efforts of Dr. Mrs. S. Kher of Indore. The IEEE MP subsection has over 350 members now, which include 100 members and around 250 students. With her efforts there are 5 new student branches being initiated at:

2.IET, DAVV, Indore
3. Vaishnav Engg College,Indore
4. Jabalpur Engg College
5. SATI,
Vidisha
Up
to date reliable technical information is critical to meeting objectives in
science and engineering. IEEE produces quality and resources essential in
keeping with the pace of technology.
IEEE
organizes more than 250 conferences worldwide to provide a platform for
international exchange and advancement. Under the IEEE MP Subsection,
Various technical activities including conferences, seminars, workshops
shall be hosted so that the technical manpower of MP can get into the
main stream and get benefited of the developments elsewhere.
With the subsection active in the state, all engineering institutions,
Industry persons, Govt personnel shall be covered to make them aware of the developments in technical field.
International level activities can be organized under the subsection which will
surely prove to be highly useful for the state of MP.
Apart from the activities for members the subsection also promotes student branches in all Engg institutions. Towards creating awareness and making them technically competent the subsection will play a pivotal role.
The IEEE student members receive all the technical and professional benefits of IEEE membership at a fraction of full member cost. IEEE encourages students to share mutual technical, professional, and personal interests with peers, potential mentors and future employers. You automatically become a member of your local IEEE student branch and section when you join the IEEE, putting you in contact with successful faculty and industry professionals.
Under the India council, All India student congress is held every year since year 2000. Such congresses are very important for the participants to know more about the IEEE and discuss their problems and suggestions to make it more useful.
