The joint chapter has planned and organized many professional and educational activities. In 2004, the joint chapter has organized one distinguished lecture program (DLP), which was given by Professor Ajit K Chattopadhyay (Emeritus Professor) and one technical short course which was co-organized by University Putra Malaysia. Two speakers i.e. Prof. Malik E. Elbuluk (Professor, Dept. of Elect. And Computer Eng., University of Akron) and Prof. Abdul Halim (Professor, Faculty of Elec. Eng, University Technology Malaysia) have conducted the short course. Besides, the joint chapter has successfully won the bid to organize the sixth IEEE International Conference on Power Electronics and Drives System (PEDS 2005). The conference was scheduled for November 2005. Hence, the joint chapter has been busy organizing the conference since early 2004.
In 2005, the joint chapter has focused on the International Conference on Power Electronics and Drives System (PEDS 2005) and on Technical Seminar on “Insights into Power Electronics Switching”. Below are some of the highlights of the PEDS 2005:
1. Prof. Joachim Holtz delivered a keynote at PEDS2005.
2. Amongst distinguished IEEE members attending PEDS2005:
a. The past president of PELS - Prof Dean J. Patterson
b. Current VP (Operations)of PELS - Prof Vassilios Aggeledis
c. A number of IEEE Fellows, which includes Prof. D.J. Patterson, Prof. J. Holtz, Prof. Oii Boon Teck.
3. A total of 380 technical papers were accepted from 500 initial submissions from 40 countries.
The seminar on “Insights into Power Electronics Switching” has been successfully held in Faculty of Engineering, Multimedia University, Cyberjaya on 23rd August 2005. There were 40 participants from companies, colleges and universities. The speaker was Mr. Rahul Hari, who is currently handles the Product Marketing and Management responsibilities of Power Measurement and Analysis Solutions at Tektronix.
The joint chapter has continuously working hard to organize many development and technical courses for the members as well as for the public. In line with this, the joint chapter has planned for six(6) activities for the year 2006. Two DLPs are to be delivered by notable professors, Prof. Joachim Holtz and Prof. Bimal Bose. More over, there will be four educational activities for this year. Besides, the joint chapter is also co-organizing the First International Power & Energy Conference (PECon) which is to be held on 28-29 November 2006 at Hotel Marriott, Putrajaya, Malaysia.
