2014 IEEE International Workshop on Electromagnetics:
Applications and Student Innovation Competition
August 4-6, 2014, Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan

Chairs' Welcome Message

The IEEE International Workshop on Electromagnetics 2014 (iWEM 2014): Applications and Student Innovation Competition will be held at Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan, on August 4-6, 2014. The iWEM 2014 is the 5th workshop in its series and mainly focused on innovation competition for young scholars and students in the field of electromagnetic theory, antennas including terahertz frequency, wireless communications, and related applications/topics such as wireless power transmission, metamaterial devices and so forth. Wide research topics relating to electromagnetics are welcome. Fusions of ideas in a variety of topics will often bring original inventions that can be never emerged from the limited topics. Several interactive sessions will be planned for students to present their accomplishments, and exchange their ideas among young scholars and participants.

In addition, plenary, invited talks with leading researchers and several oral sessions for emerging topics will be organized during the workshop. It is our pleasure that we can provide a valuable platform for young researchers to stimulate their ideas and encourage their further progress throughout the sessions. This conference is organized and sponsored by IEEE AP-S Japan Chapter, and will be cooperatively sponsored by IEEE AP-S Fukuoka/Kansai/Nagoya Chapters, IEEE Sapporo Section, and IEICE Communications Society.

In addition to the workshop, please enjoy your staying in Sapporo. Sapporo is the capital of Hokkaido, the northern most main island, and Japan's fifth largest city. Sapporo is also one of the nation's youngest major cities. Despite its size, Sapporo has a mix of natural and urban surroundings which create an open feel. There are many shopping areas so you are sure not to get bored. Today, the city is well known for its Ramen, Beer, and the annual snow festival held in February. The island, Hokkaido, is the famous resort island in Japan. The climate in summer is milder and can be the most comfortable place among the rest of Japan.

We are looking forward to your participation in iWEM 2014.

Sincerely,

Prof. Hiroyuki Arai
