Evolution of Traffic and Interconnection on the Internet

Abstract:
We will start by discussing how peering and interconnection between
networks on the Internet has changed significantly over the past few
years, and the dramatic shift in traffic that has triggered this change.
We'll also discuss the general architecture and benefits of content
delivery networks (CDN) which are now a key part in enabling scalability
of the Internet. Finally I'll give an overview of Verizon's consumer
networks and our view of what the future holds in terms of traffic and
services on the Internet.
Biography:
Sanjay Udani Ph.D.

Sanjay has been involved in the architecture, design and deployment of
residential broadband networks since 1999. He has worked on all aspects of
Verizon's FiOS deployment including the architecture for Internet data
service, video on demand, home networks and network policy management. In
early 2011 he joined Verizon's Public Affairs, Policy and Communications
group as Executive Director for Internet and Technology Policy where he is
responsible for identifying and assessing emerging technology issues that
affect the broadband Internet ecosystem. In addition, he also educates
stakeholders, including members of Congress and their staff, on complex
technical issues that impact the Internet. Sanjay is an adjunct associate
professor at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where he also
earned his Ph.D.
