Chair (Vil Arafiles)
The report from the Tellers committee was accepted as submitted. A copy is appended to this report. It was reported that there are two new fellows in the Baltimore section, Dr. James Spall of JHU-APL for work in Stochastic Algorithms and Steven Stitzer of Northrop-Grumman for his work in Ferrites and Microwaves.

The MPAC held on Dec 7 was successful with 30 attendees.  The president of IEEE USA and the director of region 2 attended.  The topics were Ethics and the Citizen Engineer.

Budget requests are coming in.  Vil wanted to thank the chapters for holding technical meetings.  Carole Carey is setting up a program to help with pre high school education programs.  Both the AES and the AP/MTT chapters require rejuvenation. An audit of the books will be required in January.  Vil agreed to get signature cards for the checking account.

Vice Chair's (Jeff Friedhoffer) report:

Secretary's report- The minutes of the November meeting were corrected and accepted.

Treasurers report - Hoosam was not at the meeting but John Dentler who had reviewed the budget said that the section was in good shape due to significant income from the conference that we had helped with funding.

Discussions

Bob Berkovits suggested that a laser pointer would be a good gift for speakers at meetings.



Director's and Chapter Chair reports
 

            Student Activities (Neville Jacobs):

 

  1. Neville wants to order 40 kits.  A motion was passed  to order 40 kits for a total cost of about $1900.  This motion was made by John Dentler.

  2. There is about $6K outstanding in kits that have been shipped.  about $2K has come back to the section.  Pace will share the cost by paying for half of the delta between expenses and income on the kits.

            EMB: A meeting was held in November.

            PES has a meeting planned for December.

           
EMC: Submitted their budget for 2003.

           
Annapolis:  In November they held a computer assembly/disassembly workshop. An administrative meeting will be held in December.

            COMSOC: The December meeting with the distinguished lecturer was cancelled due to the lecturer not be able to attend the meeting.


            WIE: (Tina Kohler) WIE has a budget for 2003 of $7K with about $4K for a workshop.  Vil said that the Baltimore section had agreed        to fund one third of the meeting expenses but not the workshop. A motion was past to give WIE $700 for at least the first half of 2003.  This motion was made by Dave Boyd and seconded by John Dentler.  Tina will come back in 2003 to let us know if they require additional funds.

Action Items:

From April
(b) Keep it open. Hoosam to look into invoicing UM for $500 Ad.
(d) Closed -  John Dentler to look into trademark for Sky Crab.
(e) closed  - Dave Boyd will do it Dave Boyd has since responded and completed his action. Jeff will send e-mails to AES and AP/MTT and EMC.

From October
(b) Open- Mel Hotz to provide paragraph describing FE/PE program and asking for volunteers to make up exam. Keep open - Joe Carl to send Mel Hotz a note. Vil to provide Joe with Mel's e-mail address.

From November
Action item closed 11.1 John Dentler and Jeff Friedhoffer will look up charges by monster.com and other private institutions to employers.
11.2 Closed Send e-mail to chapters to send their budgets for next year by December 7.
 

From December

  1.  Jeff will call Bob Berkovits to remind him to get in touch with the former treasurer to get the books and close their checking account. 

  2. Vil will call to get the AP/MTT account closed.

  3. In November a letter was receiver that asked for lists of companies in this area that employ IEEE members. Put together a list of companies that employ EEs.  Jeff will do a sort on IEEE companies.
