The Northern Virginia and Washington Sections have been considering ways to improve
communication with the membership. One such way is by
increased use of electronic media. Our buzzword for
this is an "Electronic Scanner". I think the paper
Scanner does a good job, thanks to the work of many
people. However, its timeliness is limited by the
bimonthly schedule, and that is dictated by the cost of
printing and postage. We simply cannot afford to print
and mail 12 times a year, and the Internet is
enticingly cheap |
The paper Scanner is called a "push" medium because
your membership is all you need to receive it, and the
US Postal Service brings it to your mailbox. At the
other extreme, the current web calendar is a "pull"
medium because you have to sit at you computer and ask
for the URL. The equivalent "push" electronic medium is
an e-mail version of the Scanner. However, e-mail will
work only if you keep the listing of your e--mail
address up-to-date. WE look forward to hearing from
you. |
